wireless gemini

My wireless Gemini keeps resetting. Can you please tell me what network it needs to be assigned to? My home internet on the DirecTV WVB?

DTV doesn't use your home network, it sets up a separate WiFi network between the HS17 or WVB and the minis that only they can use.

So tech was out today troubleshooting, installed a new wireless Gemini, and connected it to my home internet.  He did not have the password to the WVB but said it would be fine on my own network. Now I am still having the reset issues.

DTV's WVB/minis has the password built in which is why no other devices can use that network as there is no way to enter it.

Yes, the Gemini will use your wireless home network.

It does get the satellite from ANOTHER wireless network using the Wireless Video Bridge, built into your Genie 2 and the Gemini. The WVB sets itself up, you don't need to input the password. If you have a WiFi "sniffer" you will see the WVB on 5GHz wifi...

As far as what the Gemini uses from your home wireless network, I'm personally still exploring that.

No, it doesn't when connected to your home network all the data packets from the Genie are sent through your router to the Gemini which is why DTV prefers to use their own WiFi network.

Really appreciate the information, please keep me updated on any additional information you think would be helpful. I have now had three tech visits and the Gemini swapped out twice. Every three to five minutes the screen freezes, then goes black, some sort of reset mode, then comes back on after around 30 seconds.

Does the Gemini receiver support Wi-Fi 6?

The Gemini receiver is not the one connecting to the internet, this is done by the main Genie HDDVR. All the Gemini does is receive the Internet connection from the Genie through the SWM splitter/WVB.

@john21mart I don't think so. Do you have the HS17?

@john21mart unfortunately I don't think the HS17 supports Wi-Fi 6. However, I could be mistaken. See info here: http://en.techinfodepot.shoutwiki.com/wiki/DirecTV_Genie_Air_(HS17-100)

The HS17 design pre-dates WiFi6.

The Genie 2 gets streaming from the 2.4 GHz wifi, the 5 GHz wifi is reserved for the "private" network using the Wireless Video Bridge, built into the Gemini and the Genie 2 (and used by the external WVB often used for the Genie Mini).

So WiFi 6 would not help at all... it is 5 GHz
