Using the rewind and fast forward feature on DVR shows

When I used the spectrum remote and fast forwarded through the commercials on the shows I watched through the DVR, there was a feature that would "go back" 3 or 5 seconds if you went to far ...

Is there a feature like this on the Directv DVR and remote?

Yes, there is, @msouchuk. DIRECTV Satellite DVR includes the following features:

  • Press Replay on the remote to go back 6 seconds.

  • Press Skip to jump ahead 30 seconds.

  • Press and hold Skip to jump to the end of a program.

  • Press and hold Replay to jump to the beginning of a program.

Not sure what keys are the skip or replay on my remote. Maybe you are referring to a different remote.
I have guide list, exit, back, mute, previous, and the play, fast-forward and rewind buttons on my remote.

Yes, DIRECTV DVRs have a similar feature! If you fast forward too far, you can press the "Replay" button on the remote, which jumps back 6–7 seconds—perfect for catching what you missed. It’s a handy tool just like Spectrum’s skip-back function. Make sure you're using the Genie remote for full functionality.
