Use a Dish Genie with a new DirecTV system

Recently changed from Dish Satellite to DirecTV satellite.

Is any of my Dish equipment (genie boxes and Dish remotes) usable with new DirecTV system?

New system has two Gemini boxes and two Genie boxes.

DirecTV’s Gemini remote is the worst remote I have ever used.  The flat keyboard has no tactile feel to it.  The only way to see the keys in the dark is to push any button and then keyboard lights up for only a couple of seconds.  The remote is not comfortable in the hand while the Dish remotes light up as soon as they are touched and stays on for a very reasonable period of time(the Genie remotes are much better and easy to use and are more like the Dish remotes.)

is there any Gemini remote that is more user friendly or am I stuck with this Flintstone one?

Did you mean to say that you switched from DIRECTV satellite to DIRECTV STREAM via the Internet? Dish Network is a separate satellite company not correlated to directv, they are competitors.

An older Genie DVR for directv satellite or even the Genie clients are completely useless, however the Genie ‘peanut’ remotes (models RC71, RC72, RC73, etc) are able to be used on the Internet Gemini boxes.

As a note, since you had cancelled directv satellite, your older Genie DVR and Genie clients MAY need to be returned through UPS or FedEx, check your inbox for instructions. Or, if you didn’t get any, post here the satellite model numbers of your boxes and I can confirm if they are returnable at all. If you don’t return, you get charged a non-return fee.

We love the idea! We'll forward it to our team, so they can review and determine next steps. Sorry for the experience but let's work on this together. I'll send you a PM to look options. Jessriel, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Directvhelp no need for a PM as I feel others knowing about remote compatibility would be more beneficial.

Dish equipment will not work on a DTV satellite system.

I believe the OP did have directv satellite before but is accidentally referring to the service as 'Dish equipment' unknowingly. They mention about the Genie and back-lit remote so I believe they did have DIRECTV satellite before heading to the streaming side.

No, I said I recently switched from Dish satellite to DirecTV satellite.  I sent the “DVR” and a few more things back to Dish in a box they provided.  They didn’t ask for the remotes nor the little set top boxes which ran to my tv’s.

So I have all of these great dish lighted remotes with nothing to do with them other than use them for night lights to shine on my DirecTV remotes to see all of the keys clearly!
