Upgraded equipment
Curious I have had the same equipment for some time now. I have heard you can request updated equipment if you equipment is over two years old. Is these any truth to this?

Yes to a point, DTV doesn't update their equipment frequently it can be 5 years or more before anything new comes out. The newest model is the HS17 Genie2 that has 7 tuners but is a mini client only system that doesn't allow any other DTV receivers on the account. There is also the new C71WK mini client that is 4K compatible that can be wired or wireless. In most cases an upgrade is only to add another TV. If you want to post the model numbers of what you have we can give you better advise.

Your equipment does not need to be upgraded, it is quite alright. The only thing that may be a hassle is that you can’t use all 5 wireless clients at the same time with the HR44, only three at a time. This is because the HR44 has three tuners to give away and each client takes up one tuner at a time.
The way to solve this would be two H25 standalone HD receivers to replace your two wireless C41Ws or just go with the HS17 receiver. As a note, the HS17 forbids standalone HD or HDDVR boxes like the HR24 or H25 so it is considered a restrictive setup.

The HR44 is the last Genie made that is not 4K compatible it can't get the few 4K channels but can record the few 4K PPV movies and play them in 4K to either the C61K (wired only) or the C71WK mini. The HR54 is 4K compatible when used with the 4K minis.
The C41W minis where the second model made and is the oldest model and is now non returnable so you can call DTV and tell them they died to get them replaced for the $20 shipping fee, you could get the C61W as replacements.

Hey @Juniper really Appreciate your effort of explaining everything in details, Could You explain what'd you mean by "REGULAR RECEIVER"? when you said " This model does not allow regular receivers".
Could You also Explain What do you mean by at last sentence "make sure to be caught up on your recordings as they do not transfer to the new box."?
Would it not Work like Whole Home DVR, Like You record from one Box and Can watch that recording on another Box or TV?

The HS17 Genie2 account only allows mini clients so H or HR receivers will not be authorized to work with it.
Recording are encrypted to the DVR that recorded them so they can't be copied to a new/different DVR. Whole Home streams the decrypted programs to the minis/H/HR receivers.

What is the current equipment being installed? I have had a HR54-500 for about 3 years. Am I eligible to receive upgrades?

also, isn't getting an upgrade "automatically" signs up the account for a 2 yr contract? or did that change?

world changes everyday. wanted to be sure OP was aware. I just noticed 2 wks ago that DTV has their own website separate from AT&T after I click on DTV in my AT&T website account. I was aware of the sale, just you never know when & how much of separation happens.

AT&T sold off 30% of DTV and the new partner has moved everything back to them and is running the day to day operations.
