Transfer recording to new box

My master box won’t power on and waiting for a replacement. I was told that I would lose everything on the hard drive.  I can access them now and watch them on my iPad and Roku tv so they must be in the cloud. Why can’t I transfer them? Can I swap the hard drives?

Hi @Bltedwards, thanks for sharing that information. Recordings are non-transferable, and we can't swap the hard drives. You can only access your recorded shows using the receiver you used to record them. Thanks for choosing DIRECTV.

How is that possible when the box is fried but I am able to access them right now on my iPad?

If the replacement for the master box has not been set up yet, you can still access those recordings on your iPad through the DIRECTV App by going to your library.

Most likely you're accessing those old recordings via the network's streaming site rather than your DVR's hard drive.
