Setting up satellite dish

I am trying to install a DIRECTV HD Satellite Dish w/Digital SWM3 DSWM3 LNB 20 Tuners + RG6 COAXIAL Cables Included Ka/ku Slim Line Dish Antenna SL3 single output   When searching for signals I have only been able to get 96 readings for transponders 1, 15, and 29. Nothing else.  I’m beginning to think I have  bought the wrong dish or my receiver is incompatible.  I’m installing at my winter home 40 miles north of Phoenix AZ.

What receiver model are you using? If your receiver is not an HR54 or H44, are you ensuring that you are using a SWM power inserter to power the SWM LNB? Moreover, make sure you have a clear line of sight to the satellites (download the Satellite Pointer application on your device and point it toward the southern sky, looking to see if 99, 101, or 103W are obstructed by trees or other objects). Other things to ensure are that the elevation is set properly, the dish pole is completely LEVEL, and the dish itself is not warped or bent in any way.

Thank you for your help.  I discovered late this morning that I need a SWM power unit after borrowing one from a neighbor’s system.  Completely solved the problem.  Have, one on order from Amazon to be delivered Tuesday.

Strange as you should have gotten a 775 error code and SWM not detected. 40 miles may still be in the local spot beam.
