Searching for a compatible remote control similar to the Gemini for my directv

I just switched to Directv and was given one Gemini connector to plug into back of older not-smart tv and that came with a remote control. For 2nd tv, I downloaded the Directv app, and am using the Sony TV remote. That original TV remote is not as simple or straightforward as on the one that came with the Gemini device and I am looking to change. I see what looks to be the identical remote on Wal-Mart's webpage and probably on Amazon also, but I keep seeing info about compatibility with this or that (for example C71KW-200 or C71KW-400). It sounds as if I need these receivers to make the remote work properly? Not just the remote alone where TV is running Directv via app?

Would it just be easier to pay a little extra to Directv for a 2nd Gemini device that comes with a specific remote?

That is most likely a Gemini Air for DTV streaming not a C71KW for DTV sat.  There is no difference between the C71KW 200 or 400 except who made them as the last three numbers is a code for who made them.

If you are looking for a TV remote it has nothing to do with DTV sat.

Thanks --- yes it is streaming, not satellite so does that mean any universal remote work? This is what I was looking at --- even tho its compatible with the satellite, it would work with Directv streaming?

That will not control the TV app menu.  DTV remotes are made to only turn on/off the TV and control the volume.

We appreciate your insights, Shannon.

Hi, @chrisb61. You're right, since the Gemini remote will only work with Gemini Air and box. Hence, for optimal streaming experience, we suggest getting a second device. John, DIRECTV Community Specialist
