Scheduled programs not recording with reason: "This episode was canceled because of a programming update (13)"

Sometimes scheduled programs do not record and when I check recording history I see the message "This episode was canceled because of a programming update (13)."  What is the workaround for this. I would think that any sort of system or schedule upgrade would first check for in-progress or scheduled recordings so as to not interfere with them.

I found an answer to a similar question, and that answer was:

"This usually means that the station/network updated or changed their guide information. We recommend resetting your DIRECTV receiver to allow the guide to download the most up-to-date information. We apologize about the inconvenience!"

BUT - without advance warning that an update is going to happen, how will I know that I have to re-set the receiver?!  Finding out after the recording is canceled is too late!  Can't the update logic be changed to not interfere with current or scheduled recordings?  Canceling scheduled recordings is not what I am paying a considerable amount monthly for!

This message usually means that when the DVR went to record the program it was different from the one that was scheduled.

If the channel changes the guide data the program won't record.
What programs were these.

I appreciate your answering. However to me this answer does not make sense.

The canceled program was "This is Us."  A well-known network program.

I don't understand why a DVR user would be presumed to not want to record a program they scheduled because "the guide data has changed."

In my opinion the default should be to record as scheduled and let the person delete the recording if they don't want it.

I understand that you are not an AT&T employee and cannot speak for them. I am answering the way I do in case an AT&T employee does happen to read this.

The guide is not updated in real time first the network sends any changes to the guide maker who does what they need to do then the updated guide is sent out to their customers who have to add it to their system in DTV case the sat stream that is sent to the DTV receivers but it is a loop system so it may not be updated for awhile.

Could this have been a repeat?

No it was a first-run episode.

Would a workaround be to have the season pass set to record all episodes?

Still, I think this is lame and should not happen. Again, why would someone recording a program care about guide updates? And they can always delete the program afterwards if they do not want it. But if adjusting the season pass will overcome this issue I can do that.

Sorry my mistake - I think the episode may have been a re-run.  I didn't expect a re-run in the middle of the season.  That may explain why the episode didn't record.

Yes, that's usually what causes this.'

Thanks for posting back.

This will happen when you have "first run episodes" set, and the show is a re-run, or the guide data did not specify it as a first run.  It is especially annoying on the off-network channels, that never properly code the shows, forcing you to set the series option to record all episodes, then manually delete the ones you've already seen.

If you set first run, the DVR will record first run plus any episode which might be first run (for example has no episode data), to be on the safe side.

I am having the same problem, I have the show set to Record ALL and made it #1 in priority.

And there are shows I have set to first run only and the DVR constantly records reruns

What is the fix

The same thing happened to

me! I lost 4 shows last nite, because it said it was cancelled. Error 13!

I am honestly (Edited per community guidelines) right now. They  were all new shows, and this it's not the first time this has happened. I am getting ready to get rid of direct tv. I have had nothing but problems with them. This is inexcusable.
