Satellite signal lost, and It switched to streaming by itself

I didn't know I had this??

I have Genie in one room,  and an older box in the other. Snow killed our signal, and the Genie started streaming the channel. We didn't miss a beat on the show. But the other was dead to anything live???

Confused on what's going on there.

Hi @Madman1960. Please note that SignalSaver feature is only available on and Internet-connected Genie, Genie Mini and Gemini receivers. What is the model number of the receiver in the other room? Thanks for that emphasis @Juniper.  Kesiah, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Thanks for bringing this signal loss to our attention. We’ll be glad to clarify this for you. With our SignalSaver feature, you can watch DIRECTV in bad weather using your internet connection. You can find more information here: https://www.directv.com/support/satellite/article/KM1501435. The option appears when the signal does not provide you with the expected picture quality. However, it should appear in both genies. To confirm, did you see the option displayed on the genie that didn’t work? Santiago, DIRECTV Community Specialist

@DIRECTVhelp

The OP says Genie and "older box". That would say the 2nd box is not a Mini Genie.

I have the original HDVR (?) In my bedroom. Bought my house in 2010. Whole house viewing on two tv's. The living  room has the Genie that replaced the other HDVR.

It doesn't have a name (Genie or Gemini or anything).

It says Directtv + HD DVR on it.

Thanks for letting us know. The option is displayed on your Genie since the SignalSaver feature requires a broadband Internet connection through an Internet provider. The HD+DVR equipment doesn't have this feature. However, we want to help get a signal on that receiver during bad weather. Please check your PM to start some troubleshooting. @Madman1960

SignalSaver is something introduced with the Genies. Your older HDDVR does not have it unfortunately.

Regardless of type (Genie, HDDVR, Mini Genie, non-DVR receiver), they all have a model number (label on the box or go into MENU and then INFO AND TEST). Just for reference:

Genie: HR34, HR44, HR54 (or revised HR54R1)

Regular HDDVR: HR20 thru HR24.

Ours is doing this several times a day over the last month. Our dish is clear of snow. It doesn't seem to record in streaming mode. What's going on? Is this normal? Is something wrong with the satellites? Does something need fixed?

I called Direct TV. They said it is probably an alignment issue. They are sending a technician out soon.

You can't record streamed programs, only the sat channels.
