Problem solved! Costco concierge service! Unplug TV. Turns out there's a small power button on the very bottom of the TV, hold that in for 60 seconds to do a hard reset. Turn back on, all good. Good to know.

We get the importance of enjoying all the features of your DIRECTV service, @Mmickley.
Please keep in mind that the specials features of the DIRECTV receivers are handle directly by the remote control that comes with the device. We appreciate your feedback about this feature, and we'll take it into consideration for future references and updates.

Surprising as most TV remotes don't have the codes needed to control DTV receivers which is why you program the TV into the DTV remote.

We appreciate the accurate information provided by @shannon02 . It's important to mention that not all the remotes are able to control the DIRECTV receiver. However, you can find information related with how to access to your recordings.
Let us know if further assistance is required, we're happy to help.

Yes I understand, however, this Samsung controls it perfectly. Like I said, the only thing I cannot do is get to my list. Is their a different way to get to the list than the “list “ button? I would really like to go to one remote. It will be silly to have to keep the DTV remote handy just for the list button!

@Mmickley, we understand how important it is to use all the features of your services. In this case our best recommendation will be to get the DIRECTV remote to assure everything works for you.
As a suggestion, you can reach Samsung directly to see if they have additional steps to complete this task with their remote.
If you have additional questions about DIRECTV, let us know.

@Mmickley
unfortunately, there is not a way. The DIRECTV receiver is meant to be operated by a DIRECTV remote and that’s exactly what you will need to do. Ways to control it via a TV brand’s remote works ONLY for simple tasks like Guide, changing channels, etc.

That is fine but does the directv remote run the other apps on the television? Like can I run Netflix or Amazon from my Dtv remote? I will test when I get home but I doubt it. Anyway I don’t want to sound unappreciative. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Hello, @Mmickley. Thanks for letting us know your questions.
The DIRECTV remote control is designed to use the functions of the DIRECTV receivers. In order to access to the apps on your Smart TV, our recommendation is to use the remote control that came with it.
We're here to help.

It would be up to Samsung to modify their remote commands to control the DirecTV "List" function.

If the remote doesn't have the codes to control the DTV receiver then I don't see how resetting the TV would do anything.

It’s just frustrating that I have to have the DTV remote out just for one button basically! I can’t believe 1)there is not another way to reach the list 2) the Samsung remote cannot get me there!
Yes it is on Samsung to make that change to the remote but it would also be nice if DTV would update their stuff. I have had this system since I bought my house 2014. Thanks again for all the responses.

How would DTV "updating their stuff" fix the remote not having the correct codes? All DTV receivers use the same code. You get a free upgrade every 2 yrs of uninterrupted service.
