Resolution to set when using Gemini (C71KW-400)
Hi all,
Recently upgraded my old wireless mini Genie client to a Gemini (C71KW-400). My old mini Genie’s max resolution that I could set was 1080i/p, but the new Gemini can be set to 4k60 (3840x2160p 60Hz). Should I keep it as its max settings? I thought most content on DTV only displaying at 1080i? And if I keep at DirecTV’s max setting, is the Gemini box upscaling a 1080i signal to 4k? And If so, would it better to let the DirecTV do the upscaling or should I have TV do it?
(My Sony TV is capable of 4K as well).

There are only two boxes capable of delivering 4K. That would be the 4K Mini Genie (C61K, which is wired only) or the Gemini that you have.
In order for either to give you the 4K satellite channels you need either the 3rd generation Genie (HR54) or the Genie-2 (HS17) as your main box.
The 4K TV must support HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, and 60 FPS.
At least with the Mini Genie, this has required tech install to verify all is compatible and to toggle on the 4K service. No difference in monthly cost, but my expectation for this toggle is they don't want to hand out 4K boxes to those who can't make use of them.
There are very few channels in 4K. (Actual 4K, not upscaling that other providers or the TV does). Most content is still broadcast at 720, with only some at 1080. Just because the box and TV are capable of it, doesn't mean the channel or what it broadcasts are in that resolution to begin with.

I have the HR54 as a main Genie, which is associated with this Gemini. And I assure you my SonyTv is capable of 4k60. It’s actually a A95L capable of 4k 120Hz VRR.
I already know many content doesn’t broadcast in 4k natively, hence my original question. Do most people leave their Gemini set at 4k Res (given most content isn’t in 4k)?

You can set both 1080i and 4k as well as 1080p for the few PPV movies DTV has.

@ONI1013
Others can chime in regarding the upscale question.
No worries about your assurance on your TV capabilities, I was just pointing out what DirecTV's requirements are to deliver 4K (including tech install as they don't go by customer's assurance).

Thanks @shannon02 . I know I can choose any of those options, but which one should I choose for best results?
