Resolution problem

Direct TV settings has all resolutions checked and supported. But it is staying in 480. When checking on the info audio/video screen to change resolution it still only shows 480 ??

Hey @jjhall1956,

We'd be happy to help!

Other users have reported that you can hold down the EXIT button on the remote for a few seconds and it should fix the resolution.

Please let us know if that helped!

Is your receiver hooked up with a HDMI cord to the TV or a different type of cord?

For the last several weeks, many of my channels have the message saying i must watch them in "low res".  This has never happened before.  I have checked so the resolutions in the display settings ama they are good.  What else can i do?

Btw, regarding the problem with the HD issue I mentioned.. when i called into support, they suggested i connect to the internet... but here is the problem... the DirectTV menu for connecting, asked for the password for my internet connection... and there is a symbol I use in my password, that for some reason, is not on the menu.  It it's the symbol " < or >"... I don't want to have to change the password to all my components, just because you're menu doesn't contain the usual symbols!

Suggestion Uncheck all resolutions then select only 1080i and see if that makes any change.

@verdigre

Is it possible to connect your GENIE -with a Lan Cable (no) password needed.

Most likely your dish needs to be aligned as a poor signal is what triggers that message.  Connecting to the internet will do nothing to fix the problem but will allow you to watch those channels in low resolution.

AFAIK DTV doesn't allow any special characters in the password.

Hello, the last comment saying that DTV doesn't allow special characters in the password... yes, actually it does., and they are on the menu screen.. it just doesn't have those I mentioned.

I will try to adjust the dish, but it didn't seem to be in any different position than normal.  Thanks.

You are aiming at a school bus 23,000 miles away so a few degrees off matters.   Check your signal individual transponder readings, the 101 should be in the 90s, 99/103 in the 80s.
