Requirements for Genie2 Installation
We have an installation scheduled to upgrade to a Genie2 and three wireless minis. Our old/existing receivers are not in a central location and are not good locations for the Genie2. I have a central location in our house for the Genie2 but is not easy to run wiring to so I would like to prepare for the install. I am thinking of installing a shelf and power outlet for the Genie2 and pulling a new coax cable to that location to be ready for the installer. In other words I want to have a cable in place for the installer running from an easy to access location near the dish connection to the Genie2's location. This requires cutting access holes and pulling cable through the void/truss space between our floors. Something I can do but don't want to make an installer go through all that trouble.
What cable or wiring is needed to connect the Genie2 to the satellite dish? What spec or grade of coax is required?
Will our current roof mounted dish be used or will a new dish be installed?
Is there anything else I should prepare for the install?
----
We currently have one high definition DVR and one standard definition DVR. Our current setup has the dish on the roof with its cables terminating at the ground block outside the home just before the cables pass inside the home. Immediately inside those cables connect to coax cables installed when the house was built which lead to the current receiver's locations. I believe none of our current cabling will be reused for the upgrade.

Hello there. To connect the Genie 2 to the dish, any dual shield RG6 cabling can be used. The cabling that was previously used with your directv system is an example of acceptable cabling for the HS17 (as it is RG6 dual shield).
If the current dish mounted to your home is a Slimline dish, it is a capable of receiving the directv high-definition satellites 99 and 103. You can also check by knowing if the HD DVR that you were using was able to view the HD channels, and if so, the dish currently on your roof should be able to be used with the Genie 2.
Depending on whether the LNB on the satellite dish was SWM or not, the technician may have to replace the LNB if it is not SWM, as the HS17 is only compatible with a SWM LNB. The SWM LNB has one coaxial output that can run straight to a ground block, and thereafter to the HS17.
You shouldn’t need to prepare anything else for the installation. Your standard-definition DVR receiver does not need to be returned to DIRECTV, and depending on the model of the HD DVR that you had previously used, it may or may not be asked back. If you’d like to confirm, please post the receiver models of your current equipment.

Thank you for the prompt response. I have some dual shielded RG6 (solid copper core) on order.
Our HD receiver does receive the HD channels. It is a HR22-100 model.

@HeronDane
Note: Using Wireless Minis will only work if the G2 is Close enough for the internal Wireless bridge signal to reach the wireless minis.
Wired is much better. The G2 Does not Direct connect to any TV as it has no HDMI Port.
The Gemini remote is much better than the RC73 -In My Op -you may consider getting those.

Thanks for the confirmation. It is extremely unlikely that DIRECTV would ask you to return your current equipment, as the HR22 is an older HDDVR not currently being used in the field (the HR24 is the latest standalone HDDVR receiver).

If the dish is reachable from a ladder then a new one is not needed. DTV no longer allows the techs to get on the roof per OSHA rules.

Thank you for your help. The installation went off without a problem. The central location for the Genie2 worked out great so it was worthwhile going to the trouble of getting the cable and power in place.
