Remote

Back again with remote issue, last post was replacing remote on 2nd floor TV, this time I’m replacing 1st floor remote, again can’t get TV to sync. Last time I was using “Select” button instead of enter, figured that out thanks to this forum. This time same issue, can’t get remote to control TV power and volume. After finally getting option to choose TV model it wasn’t on list, one letter off. This Sony is old. Mute-enter did nothing. Any ideas ? Thank you.

Yeah, was pretty po'd when I could not sync it. They clearly threw out the older models, but you can buy a $7 remote on Amazon that has all the TV's since Fred Flintstone in it.

I endured the "try every code" process to no avail also. It turns out it's just as well, because I think you can have only 1 IR "matched" remote, i.e. you cannot have 2 remotes that are programmed to 2 different TV's when the remote is in IR mode... DTV support kept telling me I could, but then their instructions were to go into RF mode... I could not for 2 of the 3 TVs that access this client. So I have one IR remote tied to an LG tv, and an aftermarket IR remote for my old Sharp TV, and a 3rd remote in RF mode for my Samsung which is only one room from the Genie Mini.

The Gemini is another story....

I have three TV’s, living room, dining room, bedroom, never had a problem with separate remotes. TV’s are all IR, genies and main box RF. If remote pointed toward TV it doesn’t matter if you hit on or off, hit on, TV will turn off, and vice versa. Which is fine just want this new remote to control TV volume and power. Old remote is RC71, new is RC73, not sure if thats the issue. Thanks

RC73 is my problem child with my Genie Mini.... the new setup has the database via the Genie Mini, that's the problem. The old remotes had the database in the remote itself.

That's the big difference and problem in my experience.

Currently using new remote to do everything except tv, use old one for that. I have dissembled old remote in the past when it was acting up, found moisture between rubber pad and circuit board, cleaned up and was good for several months but now low numbers not working and channel rocker broke. Hopefully I get a solution. Universal remote may be over my head,

Universal remote was easy, enter code for TV, enter code for DirecTV, done...
