My remote does not turn my TV off or on... I must do that manually... WHY!!! It's the standard remote you provide.

Did you pair the remote to your TV brand?

yes... and went through each iteration of the Vizio set... NONE of them worked. The remote works fine on everything except turning on and off the TV. I talked to a guy from DirectTV and he said they were working on the problem. But no results yet?

Which programming mechanism did you try?
(I think the rep who said they were working on the problem was probably only trying to exit the call. Might be wrong, but...)

Do you have the CEC setting enabled on your TV (it may be called something else on your Visio)? If so, disable it and try again.

This is a public forum, so not anything we provided.
CEC is Consumer Electronics Control. It is a setting to have a single HDMI device control multiple. Sometimes this doesn't work well with certain products.
And what box and remote do you have?

thank you for the info... I have the standard direct TV remote, it kinda has an hourglass shape. and my box is model HR54-500. satellite receiver. I think it's just a standard one. We have had this for a couple years now.

You posted in the U-Verse Forum. I'll move this to the DirecTV Satellite Forum.

No worries. I suspected as much since you have "idaho" in your user name, a state that wasn't part of the U-Verse footprint. Just making sure you get the info for the correct equipment.
Since you have the 3rd generation Genie (HR54), your remote should be an RC7X series. The Genie remote is also known as the "peanut" style one, which lines up with your hourglass.
The traditional old style white universal remote was the RC6X series, used for the 1st gen Genie (HR34) and earlier models..
