Recording old shows, shows that are incorrectly labeled as new season and episodes when they are in fact old seasons and episodes.

So, I record only new episodes of Homestead Rescue, as well as most of my shows that I record are set to new episodes only.  Anyway, Directv recorded an episode labeling it as Season 11 Episode 5, I am watching it thinking it looks very familiar so I look it up. The show occured in Season 8 Episode 1 three years ago.  This DVR records shows like Blue Bloods, NCIS, the Chicago series of shows all the time whether or not they are new or old.  I have checked my scheduled recordings numerous times to see if I have multiple recordings set for the same shows and I don't.  I don't know if there are software issues or what, but it's getting annoying.

DTV buys the guide data from a third party vendor like most TV providers do, so either the network is sending the wrong info to them or they are messing it up.  It is also possible that another channel is labeling them as new as they haven't aired on that channel before.

If you use search to setup the series then it uses it default setting of all channels and On Demand and RR regardless of how you setup the DVR.

This has been an issue for several years and it’s getting much worse lately. From my experience, It used to be isolated to mostly movies that share the same title, for example, you would get the description for the original Poltergeist but the remake would be on. Recently I’ve noticed it with Dune, the description and graphic is the 2021 version but the 1984 version is playing. There are countless others and as a fan of older, original movies it’s no doubt impacted me more than the average viewer. I started documenting this and taking pictures of all the incorrectly labeled titles in the last month and I’ve already got well over a dozen examples. Furthermore, it’s not just isolated to same titles anymore, things that have zero similarities are on when a different description is in the guide. This is not isolated to HBO either, I’ve seen it across multiple platforms. I don’t care if this is a platform issue, Directv must be aware of this and needs to address the situation as it is getting out of hand. I think it’s time to abandon ship.

DTV has no control over what the channels sends them and as stated DTV has no control over the guide data. AFAIK all TV providers use the same guide data so this is a problem for them also.

Yes Shannon, you’ve stated this on this thread and others that are related to this issue. The point is, they need to hold the responsible party accountable if it truly is out of their hands, which is hard to believe, it’s their guide and a seemingly pretty simple fix. How hard is it to list accurate descriptions? Why is it getting worse over time instead of improving? This is just one of many problems that underline the fact that Directv has thrown in the towel and is no longer the best option.

Also, you have posted 19.7K messages? You must work for Directv, maybe pass this up the ladder instead of passing the blame.

Any employees of DTV and maybe AT&T have that fact stated in a box similar to the ACE box.  How is DTV suppose to know that the channels or the guide makers are making errors for thousands of channels?  All they do is send the feeds to uplink centers that send them to the sats.

From employees like you passing these countless online customer complaints up the ladder so they are aware that their guide is very inaccurate and getting worse. You know, in an effort to better your product.

Never worked for DTV, that is why I don't have an employee box stating that fact.  DTV's product is delivering TV channels via satellite nothing more.

If DTV has not messed the data up, then they should demand better quality for OUR money... poor quality data...

Shannon, you have made 19,700 comments in this forum and DON’T work for Directv? That’s terrifying.

And regarding other TV providers having the same issue, I seriously doubt that. I have friends with Charter that don’t experience this issue and I’d bet that it doesn’t happen on Hulu or similar platforms. I’m about to cancel Directv and find out, thanks for the inspiration.

DISH not only has the same problem, it is much worse.  I tried to use both Tivo and Tablo to record from the antenna.  They can not even keep track of which network is on which channel or if they use the east or west coast feed.  They all use the same excuse that they have no control over the issue.  As mentioned above, I told them "but you are the company I am paying my money to".

I have come to the conclusion that rocket ships can return to earth and land by themselves but it is not possible to get fully correct and accurate TV guide data.

Thanks for the input Antenna21, Dish has a pretty bad reputation for sure and if I'm not mistaken I think they are affiliated with Directv so that would make sense. It's insane that this is even an issue in this day and age.
