Program RC73 remote to control Roku TV Menu
We have a hotel using H25 boxes and RC71h and RC73 remotes and would like those remotes to control the internal menus of our Roku TVs. We've programmed the remotes with the brand codes and they control on/off and volume but the arrow and select buttons do not control the roku menu

Hello @riverbendhs, we cannot guarantee the full functionality of our RC73 remote on non-DIRECTV products, such as the Roku TV with the DIRECTV App. Here https://www.directv.com/support/satellite/article/000092856 you can see how to set up your Genie remote control to an HDTV, a DIRECTV Ready TV, and audio devices such as a soundbar. If you need assistance with your DIRECTV service, we're here for you. Laura, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Unfortunately, DIRECTV remotes cannot control the internal menus of any TV.

I don't remember if the older DTV systems were meant to be "universal remotes', but the new ones (Genie 2, Gemini, Genie Mini) absolutely are not.
They are only designed to facilitate turning the TV on and off with the clients, and to "pass" the volume command to the TV.
You need a universal remote, there are inexpensive one, but I find the newer clients seem to have slightly different DTV programming commands than the old "white" remotes.
I went with a learning remote, but of course that may be too expensive for your hotel.

I do believe the RC66RX can control the TV menus (depending on the TV brand of course) while the switcher of the remote is set to TV mode. This, again, will depend on the TV brand but I have had success with Insignia Fire TVs, LG TVs, and Samsung TVs in the past.

Yep, but he states he has the RC71 and 73 remotes.
Are you thinking to get the older remotes and see if they can work... yes my "white" remote reference was to the ones with the "device slider"

Yes, the hotel could feasibly purchase RC66RX remotes but I don’t recall if a commercial/hotel version of that remote exists. I don’t believe this is an issue as the OP appears to be using the RC73 (residential remote) anyway. As long as the H25 receivers have the locked-down commercial/business software, having a residential remote for customers is not a biggie.

Thank you guys. Yes. I have RC71H and RC73 in all my rooms. I do have a few RC66RX remotes I can test today. I really just need the arrow keys, select key and some sort of home button to work. Just trying to minimize remotes in the new rooms with smart tvs

Although, we are committed to give to our customers the best experience with our devices, so they could enjoy their favorite programming, that's why we can assure you that the remotes will work perfectly with our devices. Laura, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I'd sure hope the remotes work with their respective devices!

So I got the RC66rx to control the directional, enter, and home functions of the roku but can't figure out the * (settings) button. Also that is in TV mode and when controlling the Directv box, the remote has to be switched back to the left for the guide button to work. Is there anyway to get back to the DTV guide while staying in TV mode? I want to put shrink wrap plastic on these remotes for cleanliness and don't want to have guests having to slide the switch back and forth which won't work under the plastic

No, you cannot control the DIRECTV box while the remote is in TV mode.
To your first question, I’d try the MENU button to get to Settings on the TV while in TV mode.

I totally understand you want to provide your guests with more comfort by not having to switch remotes. But in this case, your DIRECTV remote will only be programmed for the main functions when pairing to another device, like turning on, turning off and managing the TV volume. DIRECTV will always be here for any questions you might have. Maria, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Thanks Detuch254. Menu acts as the Home button on our Roku TVs.
Would you happen to know of another DTV remote that will control our boxes without a switch at the top like the RC66rx has and also one that has no "rocker" switches for channel and volume like the R71/73 have? That way, at least I can do this shrink wrap idea. Thanks in advance!

I understand that you want to avoid having to switch between remotes. However, just so you know if you pair your DIRECTV remote with another device, it'll only be programmed for basic functions like turning on and off and managing the TV volume. Please remember that the DIRECTV team is always available to answer any questions. Gloria, DIRECTV Community Specialist.
