Problem with Genie2 HS17-500 and Gemini C71KW-400
Receiver is Genie2, Model HS17-500
Attached to Samsung TV via HDMI that came with Gemini, Model C71KW-400
Every day is a new day. Upon turning on the television I get either a black screen with sound and remote does not work. Or nothing at all. So, I have to restart my Gemini by pushing the red button. Every day!
I had the older 4k Genie mini and receiver that worked fine but upgraded to the 'new tower' that was supposed to give us a better picture.
Troubleshooting
1- Have replaced the Gemini and have had tech come and look at it. No solution and problem continues.
2- Gave it a static IP on the router thinking it was dropping and had to reconnect and that was the problem
3- Used cat cable to connect to the tower after I thought it was the wireless causing the issue, The technician disconnected it and told me that would not work.
4- Router is less than 5 feet away from the tower.
Suggestions on how I get this to work?
Thank you

The Gemini uses the HS17 built in WVB for connecting to it, not your home network. This problem has been posted before and it is most likely a HDCP handshaking problem.

can you explain how ah hdcp issue could cause the remote to stop functioning? That sounds impossible on the face of it.

Could be locking up the Gemini.

Will you kindly explain if there is a solution? You state "This problem has been posted before and it is most likely a HDCP handshaking problem" with no further information.

Not sure how it can be a handshake issue when using the supplied Directv cables, even tried a new 'gold' HDMI and rechecked all connections. No dice. Problem continues
1) Remote control decides to not work randomly.
2) HDMI cables were replaced with new ones (although I was using those supplied by Directv).
3) The Gemini box has been replaced, and has been offered to be replaced again!
4) Works on wireless AT&T signal, my guess is that is the problem. They have awful wireless.
5) Have to reset the Gemini box daily, sometimes (like today) have reset it 3 times and it's only mid-day.

DTVs HS17 has a built in WVB and the C71KW is suppose to use it to connect to each other, not you home network.

Like most new releases the C71KW has bugs that DTV eventually fixes.

Well, when I got my system, it worked terribly. I was told that the Genie 2 and the Gemini did not really depend on the wireless network in my house. (Clearly the Genie 2 needs connectivitity, if nothing else to get ads when you pause)...
But the biggest change came when I connected my Gemini to my wireless network... fewer issues right away.
All of this is independent of the wireless bridge hardware, it always connects on wifi 5GHz on it's own, you cannot change it.
So make sure your Genie 2 is connected to a 2.4 GHz wireless, I would recommend connecting your Gemini to a 5 Gig wireless unless it is far away from the Genie 2.
Go into the info screens and make sure you see that the connection is good (then home, then settings, then the info box... lots of stuff there, and the "this device" will show you your Gemini, and there is also the Genie 2 selection to check it.
