To have people help you you should give the model number of the DTV box and how it is connected to your TV, etc.

"No Signal" often means that the TV is set to the wrong Video INPUT. Verify that you've selected the DirecTV box video input.

No Signal is a message from the TV which narrows down what to check.

HDMI free of debris and secure on both ends.

Check that your TV is on the correct input to begin with.

Is the DirecTV box powering on?

Do NOT use a 'smart' power strip (either DirecTV or TV)

Try a different HDMI cable and also port on TV.

Test box with other TV or other box with this TV.

See if there are firmware/software updates for TV.

That should narrow down the problem and either fix it, or confirm if something needs replacing. As mentioned it is a good idea to share model of TV and DirecTV box so have all the info needed for troubleshooting.

Oh, and if TV has the option, make sure HDMI-CEC is turned off. That like a 'smart' power strip doesn't play well with DirecTV equipment.

I've likewise had CEC on and no issues... also wouldn't this just exhibit itself as turning on equipment, i.e. the tv would try to turn on the DTV?

Not the other way, surely.

Surge protectors are fine. But 'smart' power strips are what have caused issues from time to time. I wouldn't doubt they have gotten better. Just a caution as that or incorrect communication of HDMI-CEC could result in this situation. At the very least something to check.

Thanks, but can you give the logic on how it happens in this particular case.

I understand how CEC works, but how would it (on a TV) cause "no signal"....

All I can tell is the TV could turn the DirecTv unit on, or vice versa.

If anything, the DirecTV would force the TV to the right HDMI input, right?

Clearly the DirecTV box has no other HDMI to switch to, right?

So, I fail to see how it could make THIS situation worse. I can fully understand other situations...

I do prefer to understand as opposed to just being told with no explanation. Please do not take as an affront, but that opportunity to educate.

Unfortunately, I do not know the reason. I just have witnessed the situation and by turning off HDMI-CEC got it working again. All I can figure is it causes some sort of communication error with the data through the HDMI port. I don't know if it was an issue with certain TVs, level of HDMI port, etc.

But perhaps it is more of an issue of the past. I am just making suggestions on what has worked to solve similar issues. But we still have not heard back from the OP on if they got it working or more info to figure it out.

DTV has nothing to do with your TV auto switching the HDMI input if it does auto switch instead of you having to manually switch it, it is the TV that senses the voltage on the active HDMI cable.

Uhhh..... I stated: If anything, the DirecTV would force the TV to the right HDMI input, right?

Shannon: most DTV boxes have CEC. which they call HDMI Control.

Using this option, allows the DTV box to send volumn up and down commands to the TV via HDMI.

Also a signal on the HDMI from the DTV box can turn on the TV and also switch the TV input to the one connected to the DTV box, that sent the command.

It's more than voltage, it's commands.

So, I don't understand why you said: "DTV has nothing to do with your TV auto switching the HDMI input"

Perhaps you should read:

I can get t.v. in another room, but the netflix is off and on.  Often cannot connect at all and sometimes disconnects part way through a show.

DTV sat has nothing to do with the internet provided Netflix.

thanks - confusion comes from the fact that my other devices can get internet in that  room - only the t.v. is an issue and only with netflix.

@jhurt007

This is the forum for DirecTV service, not Netflix.

Talk to Netflix or your TV maker.
