No more local channels
My dad has the Winegard G3 carry out on a little cabin in a remote area where there is no cell service or anything. He has been able to get all the channels just fine until about 6 months ago when he lost channels 2-69 (all local channels). He has called direct Tv 4 times in hopes of talking to someone that can tell him what he needs to do/buy to get the local channels back. He has them at his house just fine - just not on his little cabin. Can anyone give me info about what he might could do?

Hi @Myleemoo. We're sorry your dad lost channels on his Winegard G3. We want you to have the convenience of your service anywhere you go. Let's meet in DM, so we can further investigate on this and get your local channels back on his little cabin. Denjylene, DIRECTV Community Specialist

DTV has shut down the MPEG2 channels and all local channels on the 101 sat that dish gets so he needs a new SWM slimline dish and MPEG4 receivers to get the local channels, DTV will continue using the 101 by broadcasting channels in MPEG4.

DirecTV has been shutting down the MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. That puts the Winegard G3 as outdated.
Going forward your dad needs a slimline SWM dish on a Tripod/Sled mount or the Winegard Trav'ler.
The DirecTV box needs to be MPEG-4 as well. What is the model number?
As a note, DirecTV will have a complimentary MPEG swap option only for equipment in the residence on the account. So if the cabin is a secondary location, it will be at his own cost. Technically another location is supposed to be a separate account because of regional sports, local channels, and taxes. Accounts can be suspended up to 6 months within a 12 month period if he is only there part of the year.
