New tv

I received a tv for our spare bedroom-we already have 2 directv boxes (1in living room and 1 in master bedroom)-so I need another box or is there an easier way?

Thank you for your help

DirecTV is designed to have a box (receiver/HDDVR or Client). Depends on what models your current boxes are on what exact options you are permitted (as equipment options changed in the last few years per AT&T, which hopefully will change to be more flexible now that AT&T is leaving the TV business). As normal, this would add $7 to your monthly bill for one more TV total.

With a dedicated streaming box (Roku, Firestick, etc.), and decent internet, you can use the DirecTV app, but it will be a limited experience as it is still satellite primarily (internet is secondary perks). It would not have all the channels and content because of this.

If the spare bedroom is not used often, then just using the app may be enough. But if you have guests a lot, or just those with tastes the app cannot cover, then going with the normal with a box would be the better option.

What are the model numbers of your current DirecTV boxes?

Knowing the model numbers of your existing boxes will allow us to answer what you would need for the new TV.

Ok I can look tomorrow for which kind of boxes we have but in the meantime-yes the tv will only be used when we have guests which isn’t very often at this time and my internet is connected and I hit the streaming button but I don’t know how to add the “room” to the list of which room I want to stream to….

Most likely you need to download the DTV app from your TV's app store or you need a streaming device connected to the TV.

Doesn't matter, each device needs the app.

Having the app on your phone is for watching on the phone.

To watch on the TV then the TV needs the app, or a streaming-box connected to the TV has the app.
