New software Download - Over and Over

Hi.  user Cshuy had the exact same problem I am having now, 3 years ago but I never saw a resolution to the previous thread with the same subject name.

I have an HR24/500 receiver.  Good sat signals, The unit has been fully reliable for many years until this week where multiple times a day, it is starting a "new software download" but it just keeps doing this.

I have tried red button, unplug power.  These steps help the DVR restart quite normally, but then invariably within a few hours, we are back to the blue screen and a "new software downloading..." message.

My current version is 0xdae and it seems to want to download 0xdb0.  Is there a way to stop this.  I have heard that directv tech support may not be the most direct approach.  Anyone have the answer?

Thanks for your help yesterday.  Once you confirmed that 0xDB0 was the correct load, I went and determined that only that one receiver was having difficulty with the upgrade cycle.  I have 3 other HR24/500s and they were all, already up to 0xDB0 so I knew it was that particular DVR.  I send a refresh code from DirecTV to that box and last night, it upgraded successfully to the current SW.  I think I am set!

Nope, it is trying to download the correct version as I also have the Ox0DB0 installed 5/11 on my HR24 and it is listed on the RedH website as the latest version.

Thanks for at least confirming that it is trying to do the right thing.  I guess the question is, why is the update failing and what can I do to make it succeed once and for all!  This started around 5/11 for me as well.

There is nothing you can do, sometimes the stream is not running the correct version when the DVR searches for it.  Stop resetting it as that dumps the guide data that has to be rebuilt and takes a day or 2 to finish.

The Sat feed IS trying to send me 0xDB0 no doubt. Thats what it says for the software4 download.  My receiver is just not processing the update correctly so it just keeps trying to download and update.  My other HR24/500 took the update on 5/11 and processed it without issue.  Must be something in this receiver.  I may have to ask for a replacement.  I have the coverage.

DTV doesn't have any more HR24 to replace it, so you will have to lease one from a third party or have DTV upgrade you to a HS17 Genie2 and lose all your HR24s and any earlier versions to be replaced with minis.

That does not sound like fun@!  I dont even want to lose the content on this HR24 but I do have others in the house I can swap, without the problem.

That may have done it or it may have done it on its own either way it is updated.

You might want to ensure that your receiver's software updates are set to "Manual" rather than "Automatic" in the settings. This could help prevent the continuous downloads.
