New Gemini remote will not turn tv off

Installed a new Gemini box yesterday. The remote will control volume and mute but will not turn on/off tv. It is a Vizio tv. Older but the old genie remote worked fine.

Spoke with support. After 30m- they are sending me a new remote. We all know that’s a waste of time and the new remote will also Not Work.

any ideas??

Hello there.

The Gemini Remote comes with a lot of new features, and turning off and on the receiver and the TV at the same time is one of them, and a really useful one.

Let's verify why your remote it's not pairing correctly with your TV, please follow the steps in the next article by clicking the "Remote Control Help" option. https://www.directv.com/support/satellite/article/KM1498132

Let us know if it is flashing a colored light or not.

Having a similar issue just setup Gemini, had to separately pair remote to turn off tv but still not able to get it to power off the genie receiver. Have to use old remote to do so.

Strange, all DTV remotes are pre-programmed to turn all DTV receivers on/off, all you need is to program the TV into the remote to turn it on/off and volume.

I’m having a similar issue, remote will change volume on my sound bar but won’t turn it off, but WILL turn off the tv.

I assume that like the RC7X remotes the Gemini remote is not made to turn on/off soundbars/A/V receivers.  HDMI-CEC is suppose to do that.

You would be correct @shannon02

The Gemini remote is only intended to be used for controlling actual TV volume/power/input, and not external devices like soundbars.

My remote will turn tv off, but not first try.  I have to hit the "off" button at least 3 times.

If you watch your Gemini remote, blue lights are bluetooth (commands to the Gemini) and red lights are IR (to your tv)

Press the power on, and you will see BOTH blink

(I'm assuming you have paired your Gemini remote and it is in "RF" mode)

The on and off functions on the Gemini remotes do not always work correctly. Sometimes the off will not turn the TV off and when you turn the TV on its changes the TV to a different input

Vizio Model VO32L HDTV10A - Volume, Mute and Channel buttons work.  Gemini remote won't power TV on or off.   This is second Gemini in the house and no problem with the LG OS TV and also works with the Soundbar - no problems.  I think they just need to fix / update the codes for the Vizio TV selected in the Gemini remote setup.

Having the same problem with a Yamaha receiver (circa early 1990s) -- remote will not turn on/off the receiver.  Remote properly controls the volume and mute via infrared (IR) signal but it will not turn it on or off.  Cox cable box remote and various other remotes over the years have always been able to control the Yamaha receiver via IR.  There must be a work around as it is just one more IR signal that can be incorporated into the remote on/off buttons.  Note that the remote also properly controls the TV -- on/off, and volume, prior to assigning the volume control to the Yamaha receiver.

AFAIK the RC8X remotes as are the RC7X remotes are not made to turn on/off any soundbars/A/V receivers,  HDMI-CEC does that.

HDMI-CEC cannot control a receiver that has no HDMI input, such as a Yamaha circa 1990s receiver (which predates HDMI).  Given that the remotes are programmed to send IR signals for the volume and mute functions for a multitude of existing devices, they can certainly be programmed to turn on and off that particular device via IR.  Please advise when DTV will address this most unfortunate lack of critical functionality.

Why would DTV add IR codes to a remote that is not made to turn on/off soundbars/A/V receivers?

Why would they???  The answers are near endless, but for starters, their customers desire, indeed demand, such functionality.  On the contrary, Shannon02, the premise of your answered is flawed; rather, why would they not...  The fact is, if the remote can control the volume and mute functions of an audio device, whether a soundbar or a multifunctional A/V receiver, there is absolutely no reason that it should not also control other critical I/O functions, the most important of which, of course, is the on/off switch.  Again, the question is, when will DTV will address this most unfortunate lack of critical functionality.
