My tv shuts off for a sec and back on while I'm watching recordings

This keeps happening. I'll be watching a recorded show and it will sound like my tv is powering off and then come right back on in the same place. There is no error message or anything else. It is happening more and more. Help please?

Hello @Lipmeister

We're here to help with your DIRECTV equipment issues.

Is it the TV that seems to be powering off or the DIRECTV receiver that powers off? Does this only happen on recordings from your playlist and not with live TV?

We are not familiar with any issues as described; however, the best advice so far would be to reset the receiver by way of red button. Depending on your DIRECTV receiver, the red button is either behind the access card door on the right front panel, or on the right side panel.

If you're unable to red button reset, simply unplug the receiver, wait 15 seconds and plug it back in. The receiver can take a few minutes to reboot and take you back to the prior channel you were on prior to the RESET

If this issue seems to be more relative to the TV, there could be some strange handshake issue between the TV and receiver. If so, this would be more relevant with an HDMI cable connection. This is unlikely, but if the TV is turning off, you might try swapping HDMI ports on your TV.

For example, if your currently using an HDMI cable and using HDMI1 for the DIRECTV receiver, try using an empty non used port such as HDMI 2, 3, etc.  Or swap HDMI connections from another source. Just be sure to use the remote and switch to the new input you're connected to.

Sometimes HDMI control may cause problems like you're describing; however, it would usually not be isolated to just recordings. For troubleshooting purpose, you might check that setting and set to OFF as by default it's ON. To turn OFF do the following:

1. Go to Settings.

2. Display

3. Video

4. Arrow over to HDMI control, highlight, select and choose OFF.

We hope any of these troubleshooting options will support a resolution for you. Let us know if we can be any further support.

Thanks, Chad. Yes, it's just on recordings not live tv. I'll try the reset button and see if that works. Thank you.

I am having the same problem with recorded movies. It is the movie turning off and on, not the TV. Doesn't seem to happen while commercials are on.

Sounds like a problem with the channel or their feed to DTV.
