Missing ODD transponders on satellite 103 (ca) and 103 (cb) and no signal but transponder 18 -22-24 on 103 (s)

This started in late fall when trying to watch certain channels like 355 CNBC picture around noon would start to pixelate

The it started saying .......771 Satellite signal issue do you want to watch in low resolution. Upon checking satellite signal I find I am missing ODD transponders on satellite 103 (ca) and 103 (cb) and no signal but transponder 18 -22-24 on 103 (s)

Is it a bad dish or a bad head on the dish  or bad switch or a bad whole house genie. It is the same on all TV's. Any help would be appreciated Thank you......

Most likely the dish needs to be aligned there are videos on youtube if you want to DIY otherwise you have to call DTV 1 800 531 5000 to setup a tech visit.

Thanks for your response. If it wasn't an alignment issue which I don't think it is do you have another opinion? The only reason I ask is because I installed it over 10 years ago and never had a problem. I sold and installed DIRECTV for over 15 years I don't think that dish has moved and nothing is blocking it's line of sight unfortunately I sold my meter when I retired and todays techs are not allowed off their ladders. just wondering......Thanks

If you're only missing the odd transponders, then it's likely not an alignment issue. It's more likely an issue with multiswitch, dish LNB, or cabling. Does your dish have one coax cable or 4 cables connected to the LNB? What DVR/Receiver model number do you have? Do you know if you have a Single Wire Multiswitch setup?

Following on with Litzdog's post. This is a classic problem with the old 4-cable setup. What type of multiswitch do you have (model number)?

Don't waste your time with @DIRECTVhelp . They won't understand this issue. Answer our questions and we'll help you here. No need to take this discussion to a private message. Worst case you'll need a service visit. But let us help you troubleshoot first.

Thanks to all of you. It is a 4 wire setup to a SWM switch

Thanks for that additional info. It's most likely an issue with one of those four coax cables. Check the coax connectors at the dish LNB and multiswitch. If those aren't the issue, try swapping the cables at the multiswitch to see if the problem moves to a different satellite/transponder. If it moves, then the problem is the dish LNB. If it doesn't, then the problem is multiswitch. Let us know what you find.

Not sure what the model number of the SWM switch it is, but I know it is 4 coax s coming from roof  to SWM 8 in crawl space out to Genie 2 DVR and some slave boxes wired and some wireless. My first thought was the head on the dish and then the switch but I don't have any of those parts anymore. I might have to get a tech out here for the parts but like I said they tell me they're not allowed off the ladder any more and mine is attached to my chimney in the middle of my house.

Don't swap parts until you check those coax cable connectors. A loose or corroded connector will cause this sort of issue. Swapping the cables as I suggested can help you narrow down if it's the dish LNB or the multiswitch. I can even help you out with either of those parts since I just removed our dish after switching to DirecTV Stream.

Unless someone at directvHelp  understands the way the old four cable system carries the satellite transponders they won't be any help. The secret is that all the 103 signals come down just two wires from the dish, odds down one wire and evens down the other.

the swm8 has two connectors marked 103/110/119, one is 13v and the other is 18v. swap over the two cables, chances are the problem will move to the even transponders.  this would indicate the problem is in the cable/connectors on the cable you have just moved to the 18v connector. If the problem does NOT move then the issue is the swm8 or in the LNB at the dish.

Thanks I'll try getting in the crawl space tomorrow and swapping cables to see if problem moves. It's warmer down there than on the roof in the middle of winter......I'll post what I find but thanks for all of the input..........

DIRECTV sent out a tech today signal was fine coming from the roof but then not getting out of the SWM8 he had no replacement for it and he couldn't go on the roof because of policy and snow. He is going to change me to a single coax 4K head on Friday. He said that would eliminate the need for the SWM8 and I told him I would climb on the roof to put head on. It should not need realigning signal coming from dish was fine. Hopefully that's right. Does that sound right to you guys?

Yes, that should work. If you're careful and don't move the dish when replacing the LNB assembly then you shouldn't need to realign the dish. You won't need the SWM8 anymore, but you will need some SWM splitters to feed your wired Genie Mini Client boxes.

What Genie DVR model number do you have?
