Lost my local channels

1. DirecTV installers are no longer allowed to climb high up or onto roofs due to OSHA safety requirements. But there are other options for locating a satellite dish. Did you and your installer explore alternative dish locations that could be safely installed?

2. No, a DirecTV installer will not install an off-air antenna. 

I currently have a Direct TV satellite dish on top of my roof. Like I said my home is not tall its a cape style. And the Technician had 2 ladders with them that easily reached my roof but refused to put a foot on the ladder. I am not asking if a DirectTV installer will install an antenna for my local channels if I buy one. How can I expect that if they cant do their jobs? I was just simply asking if I could purchase an antenna like the one in my message and use it with DirecTV and use the remote control. Just trying to figure out a work around.

An off-air antenna would connect directly to your TV and not your DirecTV box. So you would need to use the TV's remote control to change channels. 

Call DirecTV and request a different installer. Maybe that installer was just having a bad day. 

Thanks...I already have and I have an appointment this Friday but scared to death as this installer told me he is the only one in my area. I hope he is not right but when I called DirectTV I begged them for a different installer...so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Be sure to ask if there are other suitable locations to install the new dish. 

I already did only on the roof. I live in the country surrounded by woods...

OHSA no longer allows anyone on a roof without proper safety equipment so DTV will no longer go on the roof so unless it can be installed on the edge or on a pole you are out of luck. 

@dawnbengals   near me a see a home that has a tall pole (guessing 7-8 ft) and dish was installed on that.   perhaps a tree w/the branches cleared or a pole is an option.  just trying to think outside of the box for both antenna or dish.   i climbed to the highest point of my attic that could to install and aim my clearstream HD antenna.  I am assuming you lost local stations as only broadcast in HD now.   my locals in FL have been only HD on DTV for several yrs now.   and btw - when you replace your television at some point, it will be a smart TV.  that is all they sell now.

They can easily stay on the ladder and reach the dish. It’s on the edge of my roof. They have never gotten on my roof. But thank you for thinking of excuses for them!

@dawnbengals   interesting.. if at the edge of roof and 6 ft, I wouldn't make an excuse for them.  that is where mine is located

  @merlin88merlin DTV will not install a dish on a non approved mount like a tall pole, they provide an 8' pole with 3' in the ground so that would be a self installed setup.

Install it yourself, but DTV will never service it.

Very disappointed DirectTV never showed up today! I took the afternoon off. I’m seriously thinking of switching.
