Issues with recordings on Genie 2 receiver
I am having some issues with playback of my recorded shows that started about 2 weeks ago. I am a satellite customer and have a Genie 2 HS17-100 server with 3 clients. Two of them are C41W-100 and the third is a C41W-500. I have had this system for probably 4 or 5 years now and have never had a problem before with recordings. These issues don’t happen with every recording, but on enough of them that it is getting annoying. What is happening is that I get pixilation like I am losing signal, freezing of both video and audio, and at times, the recording will try to end prematurely. For example, halfway through the show, it suddenly stops and pops the prompt to either delete or not delete. However, the show hasn’t reached the end yet. The only thing I can do is select, "No, don’t delete", and then restart the show. If I fast forward past the point that it tried to end, then it will continue and finish. However, that is a bit of a pain. On one of the freezing events, the picture remained frozen for 11 minutes. It froze 2 minutes into the show. I was able to fast forward and the show resumed at the 13-minute mark and played fine from there but I missed that 11-minute segment of the show. I have read posts on this forum that similar issues occurred after a software update sometime in September or October of 2024. In December, a new software update was issued that seemed to fix the problems for the people that had posted about it. I was not affected by that update. But that information got me to check my software version to see if I was on the same version that had contained the fix. I discovered that my receiver had just been updated on 2/8/25 to software version 0x1b91. This corresponds to about the time I started having the problems. So I am wondering if this software update could potentially be my problem. The software version that was mentioned that fixed the previous problems was 0x1b84 so that is the version I was expecting to see on my receiver. However, I now appear to have a newer version. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced any issues after this most recent update.

More likely the dish needs alignment.

Thanks for your response. However, I would think that if it was the dish, I would see the same things with live TV. I do not have a problem with watching shows live, only when viewing recordings.

Then the hard drive maybe having problems.

Certainly a possibility. But I sure hope not. If I have to replace it, there go all my recordings. Unless there is a way to transfer recordings to a new unit but based on everything I have read, there is no way to do that. Please correct me if I am wrong.

That is correct, nothing can be transferred to a new receiver as they are encrypted to the DVR that recorded it. Don't know if weaknees.com can replace the hard drive on an HS17 and copy the programs and setting to the new drive.
