I have a tech coming out today to switch my set up from a wireless setup with the genie 2 to a wired setup because I lost internet?

So I was wondering why I called direct and told them I lost my internet and they said that my Geminis won't work and I needed to switch to a hardwired cable connection with regualr genie mini clients. Now I've done my research and know that they will continue to work just fine for satellite. I just won't be able to have on demand or signal saver. So why did they do this. Also why when you go to sign up for new service on the website it says slow or no internet switch to a wired connection? Like how does a hardwired cable box slove that problem when the genie 2 and wireless either Gemini or wireless genie mini clients work without internet connection for satellite feed? Also since the tech is coming out to switch everything should I go go with the hr54 and wired mini clients? I just want a reliable connection and something easy for seniors to use in the house hold. We don't stream or anything so direct is or main tv because we live in the middle of nowhere and I refuse to get satellite internet. Edit I wish I could go with the hr24 dvr setup but I know unfortunately directv stopped making those brand new and went all the way with the genie setup for new customers.

A hard wired internet connection to the Genie is the best method to use.

Know idea why they said that as it is not true.

Wired, whether Genie/Geine-2 to Clients (Mini Genie or Gemini) or wired to internet, is more reliable than wireless per the nature of the connection. Wireless can be fine depending on individual needs.

On Demand and signal saver is connected to internet, not wired or wireless specifically. So if you no longer have internet your boxes would still get TV as that is from the satellite, just not anything from internet itself.

If you had DIRECTV STREAM / DirecTV via Internet then of course no internet means no service as those are streaming-only.

I agree with the sentiment of Genie with HR24s being the most capable and reliable. Authorized retailers still have some HR24s in stock, but that means the one-time lease cost for every box. Unfortunately, AT&T pushed them into that all-in-one setup as that is what the company likes. Though they have now sold DirecTV, until the transaction completes we will probably not see any updates regarding equipment direction.

Yea it is weird I have a satellite connection and they gave me misinformation I don't know why they are advertising that you need a internet connection for the genie 2 and the Gemini receivers. I understand that you need it for on-demand and signal saver but from the way it looks to me they are saying you need a internet connection to watch directv via satellite idk just very confusing from their customer service standpoint. I ended up having a hr54 and two wired genie minis installed as I perfer the hardwired connection and dvr space and 4k is not a deal breaker. Hopefully in the future we will see some new independent dvr boxes for people who don't want a whole home dvr setup that would really make them stand out compared to dishnetwork.

The Gemini is available in two firmware versions, one for satellite and the other for the streaming-only providers (hence the naming for the dual/twin status). I think agents (in-house or outsourced) are pulling up info in their systems but not making sure they read over only what applies to satellite customers.

So for satellite customers, no box has internet as a requirement. Internet is for additional optional features.

You can have 4K with the HR54. First there are the 4K Mini Genie Clients (C61K) along with the Gemini (C71KW). They now have a new option to co-locate a 4K Mini with the HR54 so that you don't pay for one more TV total (as the HR54 doesn't output 4K itself as requirements updated too close to its launch).

Independent DVRs still support a Whole Home DVR setup. Just has to be HR20 thru HR24 (or special R22) with the regular Genie line. But they can be on a separate satellite for detached garage, workshop, or traveling in an RV as opposed to Clients which cannot work without the main box. Dish is similar as their Hopper and Joes is their version compared to Genie and Mini Genie/Gemini.

The HS17 Genie2 has a 2TB hard drive the HR54 only has 1TB.  The HS17 can use wired minis/Gemini.

As long as it is the regular HR54 and not the revised HR54R1, then you can use an external eSATA HDD instead of the internal. That way instead of 1TB you can go up to 12TB or more, far exceeding the HS17 which removed the eSATA port after the first run.

Yes the Genie-2 (HS17) can use both wired and wireless like the regular Genie. It just has the wireless video bridge (WVB) built-in where the others need an external WVB wired on the coax. Though you can use additional WVBs with it as well if you need additional coverage.
