HR24-200 internal storage error and freezing picture
I have a three TV setup and the HR24-200 tested to have an internal storage error and has a freezing picture mostly on playback I think.
HR24-200 (TV=4K capable, no 4K tv signal currently)
HR24-500 (same as above)
HR24-500 (Regular HD tv)
These HD DVRs go out periodically and usually they will send me another as a replacement but currently they are only offering a Genie 2 replacement as a free "upgrade." They said it would come with 4K signal at no additional cost.
Should I make the switch? Is this something that I would install myself? if it is just swapping out boxes and connecting cables, I should be able to do it. They didn't tell me. I said I would call back.

No HR24 is 4K capable it doesn't get any 4K channels and doesn't have the HDMI 2.0 output needed for 4K.
DTV no longer has any HR24s
DTV will not allow you to self install and an upgrade comes with a new 2 yr contract plus the HS17 account will not allow your HR24s.
You can send the HR24 to weeknees.com to replace the hard drive or get external drives to replace the internal drive or you still maybe lease one from a online third party retailer.

Thank you shannon02. I corrected my post, I meant the TV is 4K capable. The only 4K I've been able to watch on it was with a 4K disc player. I am gathering that I may want to avoid the genie 2 (hs17) a little longer if I can. The 2 year contract is certainly something to consider. The representative did not mention 2 year contract to me but I guess they probably would have if I said to go ahead and accept the upgrade. It didn't sound like there was an installation fee as I was asking about any cost changes but maybe that was something they would have gone into as well if I went forward.

There will be a $3 Whole Home fee with the HS17 unless you have Whole Home already with the HR24s.

Thank you again! If we decide we can live with a 2 year agreement, would you say the switch is a good idea?

The switch isn't a terrible idea as it is theoretically an upgrade in storage capacity from your three HR24s (1.5TB to 2TB) as well as more tuner space for recording content. As a note, though, switching to the Hs17 is a restrictive setup in that it only allows for the activation of Genie clients which work off the main HS17. With your HR24 Receivers, each box was standalone and worked by itself.
