HR23-700 Receiver / 3d2rblnbr0-01 LNB

Just purchased a camp that had an 18x20 dish with a 3d2rblnbr0-01 LNB installed.  Brought my HR23-700 receiver from home and was able to get all channels except locals, but not in HD.  I was able to watch a recording from the receiver which played in HD, so it's not a TV setting.  Do I have the wrong dish/LNB or did I set something up wrong?

How are your signal readings on the 99 and 103º satellites? That's where most of the HD channels are beamed. And how did you aim that dish?

I didn't touch the dish, it was already set up.  I just hooked up the coax cable to the box and changed the satellite settings until I was able to get some channels.  I don't remember the signal strength on those two satellites.  I'll have to check next time I go.  I do remember not having a lot of satellite options on the signal strength page, maybe 3 max.

Is that not a SWM LNB so needs a power inserter?

@LSUME05

Are you sure the dish is an 18x20? While those Phase III dishes can technically fit the SWM LNB fine, the signal on 99 and 103 are extremely weak as I've done an experiment like this before and the 18x20 reflector is too small to get 99 and 103 reliably. Your best bet is getting the right dish for the job, the Slimline HD SWM dish.

Also, is your HR23-700 also equipped with a SWM power inserter, or is the SWM LNB already powered elsewhere?

It may have been a slimline dish, 18x20 was a guess.  I just know it’s oval, not round.  I did not have a power inserter.  Would that effect picture quality?

The dish and LNB looks relatively new…..if that helps.

We really can't offer much more advice until you have a chance to visit that dish. You will need a SWM Power Inserter with an HR23 HD DVR. And it's quite likely that the dish is not properly aligned. Keep us posted.

It shouldn't work at all as a SWM LNB needs 21v and all the HR23 puts out is 18v.

I’ll get a 21v power inserter and try it out when I go back in a couple weeks.

Thanks for all the help.  I’ll let you know what I find out.

Right, unless of course the SWM LNB is being powered elsewhere and as stated by litzdog911, the dish is out of alignment. Either way, you need a closer look at the dish and the wiring to see if it is a Slimline dish, where the LNB is receiving power, etc. Otherwise, you'd need to buy a power inserter to power the dish.
