How Does it Work to Have DTV Satellite on Main TV and then Utilize DTV Apps on Other Smart TVs in House?
I contacted DTV Satellite today to renegotiate my yearly rate and the agent advised I could save the $7 per tv fee for the other smart tvs in the house if we switched to the DTV app. I thought the app was only for streaming version of DTV. So how does that work? Assuming you would not be able to watch anything recorded on the DVR to the main tv?

AFAIK the app can't stream from the DVR and not all sat channels can be streamed.

Hi @stelmoqn. That's right, you can use the DIRECTV Satellite app with compatible devices and can watch your DVR recording. Visit How to watch the DIRECTV App | DIRECTV Support to find out which compatible streaming devices you can use to download and watch the DIRECTV App and Watch Live Or Recorded TV With The DIRECTV App | DIRECTV Support to learn more about DVR recording. Thank you for choosing DIRECTV.

Directv agent just confirmed that not all channels avail on satellite can be streamed thru the app (which doesn't work as preloaded option on Samsung smart tvs) and I confirmed by chatting with Samsung that the issue with this lies squarely in the court of DTV not getting it working for them:
"We (Samsung) have already requested it. But the decision will be coming from the App developers which is Directv."

Yes, some channels available on DIRECTV via Satellite may not be accessible on streaming due to varying rules and restrictions set by the networks for streaming.

The app existed long before DIRECTV STREAM (and other versions of the name for streaming-only). The current app is used for both DirecTV and the streaming version, instead of having a separate app dedicated to each.
DirecTV is primarily by satellite. As such streaming perks, such as the app, are secondary and do not have everything. It would save you $7 for each TV no longer "authorized" on content from satellite, but it would be a limited experience on those TVs.
What is recorded on the DVR is accessible by other boxes on the account, not streaming. The new version of the app may have additional features added in time, but nothing specific is set yet.
The Samsung "smart" TV app is not suggested as is sub-standard to dedicated streaming boxes (Firestick, Roku, etc.).
There is never a guarantee that there will always be a discount available (be it for a year or a few months). Always budget for full cost as discounts are supposed to be temporary perks when available. Review the channels you watch, any optional add-ons, and verify you only are subscribed to as much as works for you.
