How can I use MRV with my H24

Hello guys, I was wondering if you can help me with setting up mrv with my HD Receiver I wanted it to collect the playlist for my HD Dvr Genie HR44. I've been doing a lot of research and I found that this Receiver has an Internal deca ( The deca allows you to use mrv) so now what do I do.

The Genie (HR44 is 2nd generation) requires Whole Home DVR, what DirecTV calls their Multi-Room Viewing (MRV). So the H24 if it was properly hooked up should already have access to watch the recordings from any HDDVR in the home, provided they are on the same physical cabling/satellite of course.

Did DirecTV install both the Genie and H24?

Are they on the same cabling and satellite?

What happens when you press LIST on the H24's remote?

Did you check to see if the Genie is set to hide the recordings?

When you log into your account does it show HD, DVR, and Whole home DVR (all 3 are required based on the boxes you have).

Having a HR44 on your account means you have WH or as you Call it (MVR) using your H24 -With Nothing Connected to the H24 REAR Lan port all you would need to do is go to the HR24 and using your remote -Menu -Settings -WH - follow the instructions from that (NAME) your H24 (example) Bedroom - or LVR -and you should then be able to see your Hr44 Playlist and record programs from the H24 using the genies location.

If you Have a LAN cable Plugged into your h24 (just guessing) NOW remove it first -then Press the red button reset (next to the access card) in the Hr24 -Then follow the above instructions.

You only need the coax connected to the H24 it uses the coax to receive the programing and internet from the HR44.  That is what DECA does.

Whole Home is shared through coax, not your internet. Remember, DirecTV is service by satellite. It has no requirement for internet connected. That is only for optional On Demand, which the Genie is the only one internet-connected (otherwise causes conflicts).

That H24 needs to be active on your account of course. Otherwise authorizations will not match.

Please answer Juniper's previous questions .....

  • Did DirecTV install both the Genie and H24?
  • Are they on the same cabling and satellite?
  • What happens when you press LIST on the H24's remote?
  • Did you check to see if the Genie is set to hide the recordings?
  • When you log into your account does it show HD, DVR, and Whole home DVR (all 3 are required based on the boxes you have).

We need more info on the setup as it should have been working as soon as DirecTV installed it. So trying to hook it up to make it work says either someone changed something after install that messed it up or there are concerns about the status of equipment and where you got it.

Just want to be sure we give you all the relevant info to get it working and so you don't encounter further complications.

Your boxes are fine. Genie and the Mini Genie Clients require Whole Home DVR and must be connected. HD non-DVRs (H21 thru H25), as well as HDDVRs (HR20 thru HR24 and special R22), are Whole Home DVR compatible. The key thing is they must be on the same cabling and receiving satellite dish, so a box connected in an RV or vacation cabin couldn't share.

That being said, there is a big confusion as you say 6 satellite dishes. Normally a home only has a single dish, or perhaps a 2nd (detached garage, guest home, workshop, etc.) but with 6 that is extremely unusual. Depending on what is going on you may need a tech to sort it out on site, but we'll guide as best we can before that.

So how do I know if my HD Receivers are on the same cable/sat as the Genie HR44

Again I ask, what sort of installation is this?  Your DirecTV satellite installation should only have one satellite dish feeding all of those boxes. Then they would all be connected together via the SWM (single wire multiswitch) coax cables.  It doesn't make sense that you would have six satellite dishes.  Or is this a multi-dwelling installation?

It a regular SWM Installation. I've talked with the a directv agent.

So please explain the "6 satellite dishes".  Is this a single-family home or multi-dwelling installation?
