Help with Smart TV without a tuner

I have a Smart TV with no coax in, so no TV tuner built in. The place I live provides Direct TV to all the apartments so one account for all residents, so I d not have my own account. The account is for the entire building. (I cant stress that enough because the 1-800 folks cant wrap their head around that concept). What device do I need to take the coax output from the wall to a Smart TV that doesn't have a coax input. An external Tv tuner makes sense, but I can't find one that supports Direct TV signal (what protocol does Direct TV use in this case?

Technically it is a monitor not a TV since it doesn't have a tuner.   You have to contact the company that has the MDU service contract for the building to install a receiver or whatever to connect to the monitor via HDMI.

Monitors may not have HDCP circuits that will make it useless for DTV and all other TV providers that are required by the content providers to use HDCP.

Whatever company provides the DirecTV service to your complex will have a box you connect to your TV, most likey via HDMI cable. DirecTV doesn't provide that service directly.

First check what you have as all "smart" TVs should still have a coax input with digital tuner. This sounds more like you have a monitor, which might not have what is needed for HDCP. What is the make and model to be sure?

In any case, DirecTV wouldn't connect by the coax in the TV itself (unless an SD-only TV that was made before even A/V inputs). That digital tuner is for a regular over-the-air antenna.

You will need to get in touch with your system operator (check with building management for how to contact) for your Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU). They should provide you a DirecTV box. That receiver/HDDVR receives the signal from the satellite along their coax but after the signal is unscrambled is then HDMI to the TV itself.
