Group Plan - Direct TV | Cable TV - No DVR

My mother has direct TV cable which is on a group plan through her independent living center in Florida.  The package she has does not come with a DVR.  She wants to record a show, to watch at a later time.  The management of the independent living center is looking into a group plan to include a DVR, however this could months, and may not be approved in the long run.  Just wondering if there is a recording option that I am not aware of, e.g. buying a separate recording system?  Maybe if she upgrades her TV to a smart tv, she will be able to watch a show, pause it and then finish watching it at a later time?  Thanks.

Most likely the company that installs and maintains their DirecTV equipment is the only one that can upgrade her equipment. If she has fast internet she could switch to DirecTV Stream instead of the facilities DirecTV service.

MDUs set their own rules and DTV can't do anything about them.  If the internet is good enough you may be able to switch to the streaming service with a cloud DVR

Only 2 questions were asked:

"Just wondering if there is a recording option that I am not aware of, e.g. buying a separate recording system?"

yes, but you will have to manually set the record times, and you may be forced to record on an inferior "connection".

The other question: "If she has fast internet she could switch to DirecTV Stream instead of the facilities DirecTV service. "

Yes, as answered above, test your download speed with SpeedTest.

My opinion is that manually searching the guide for the show times, and then programming the recorder would be a pain, and especially noting you would have to be watching that channel at the time.
