Gemini IR Code Sets
I recently installed a Gemini device co-located with my HR-44. After fine tuning a few parameters, it is generally working well. I have an HR-20 DVR in the same room and use an IRC MX-990 IR remote to control both (HR-44 as Receiver 1/ code 00001 and HR-20 as Receiver 3/code 00003). The IR codes sent by the Gemini remote appear to use code set 00001 as the HR-20 does not seem to respond to the Gemini remote. However, the Gemini device appears to respond to all the DirecTV IR code sets. For example, when I access the menu or play list on the HR-20, the Gemini/HR-44 device also responds and makes changes to both receivers resulting in unintended deletions/additions on the HR-44. Is there any way to restrict the IR code sets that the Geminin device responds to?

To avoid your remote from controlling both of your receivers, you can do a factory reset by press and holding the fast-forward and rewind button together at the same time. Then, pair your remote by following these steps: Set up your DIRECTV remote | DIRECTV Customer Service & Support Meet us in DM for further assistance. -Shania, DIRECTV Community Specialist

The question was:
Is there any way to restrict the IR code sets that the Geminin device responds to?
The answer is no, it always responds to IR codes, and you cannot change which it responds to.
But why don't you set the Gemini remote for Bluetooth, and then it won't normally send any IR codes for the Gemini (it will send IR for any TV it's paired to)

Thanks gregeusa.
What I want to do is control all my home theater devices from a single programable IR remote. It seems like having the Gemini device respond to all DirecTV IR code sets (1 through 8) is a defect in its programming that defeats the prior DirecTV feature of being able to separately control multiple receivers.

Hi @BlvJohn. Have you performed a factory reset and re-pairing your remote? -Shania, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Hi DIRECTVhelp:
I did attempt the reset and repairing the remote even though I doubted it would fix the problem. The Gemini device still responds to all DirecTV IR code sets. If I press LIST on my RC64R remote that is programed to use the AV1 00003 code set (DirecTV Receiver 3), the Gemini co-located with my HR-44 responds in addition to my HR-20.
If there is a list of desired feature additions for the Gemini device, please add a request to allow selection of the DirecTV IR code sets that it responds to.
I guess I will have to disconnect/deactivate the Gemini in the meantime.
Thank you.

uhh..... Directv help person: remote not broken, you should read the thread over.
He has 2 units, HR44 and Gemini. the HR44 remote sends IR commands, and the Gemini responds.
Maybe you set Gemini up for wireless/rf/bluetooth remote operation, and then put piece of black tape over Gemini IR receiver (look at front of Gemini with bright light)... now Gemini cannot receive IR...

by the way, when I switched from old HR unit to Genie 2 / Gemini, the installers seeing I had the Gemini in a cabinet, with an external IR repeater, they taped the repeaters "emiter" to the front of the gemini, i.e. they knew right were the IR receiver was in the Gemini front panel.

Thanks gregeusa:
I have taped over the IR window on my Gemini and it no longer responds to IR codes. My universal remote can now be used for all my other AV components without impacting the Geminin, but I have to use the Gemini remote for the Gemini device. Recommended to DirecTV rep that they consider adding a Gemini menu option to select the IR code set for the Gemini like all other DirecTV receivers. May look into options for IR to Bluetooth repeaters. I used Flirc as a work around for my FireTV cube.
