Gemini fails to turn TV on/off

My new Gemini system will not turn my TV itself on and off, but it does adjust the volume. After two hours with tech-support, online chat, and finally a phone call to a human being for tech-support, I learned this is a known condition -unfortunately only known by a few technicians.
Prior to the living tech, everything wanted me to re-pair My remote to the box which was totally useless as it didn’t change anything. Everybody was polite, but unhelpful. Final results from the Live technician on the phone is the failure to include old systems in the firmware if. If your TV is not relatively new, you can’t turn the power on and off. My TV is a DYNEX Mdl DX-40L261A12, and is considered too old to bother supporting. The flaw has been known for over two years, but is still un-corrected as the machines have been built and can’t be modified by an update.

The technician told me that if you go to directv.com, select support, then look for “compatible devices” You will find a list of compatible devices that will tell you your TV is too old to bother with (my word not theirs). There appears to be no intent to change this, nor to forewarn you.
Your only options are to buy a new TV or live with the two remotes (When their sale point is to “minimize the number of remotes you need”).

These are the codes from the  DTV lookup website.

TV Codes for Dynex

11463, 11780, 11785, 11810, 12049, 12184

https://www.directhd.tv/directv-remote-code-lookup/

The directions don't seem to be right but you can try them.  Not sure if the RC8X can be manually programed.

Sorry, that’s for the old Geni remote, not the new Gemini Remote.

Nothing worse than using the "chat" feature for something complicated. The amount of time it takes for a response after asking a question leads me to believe they are assisting people other than me at the same time. Many people can multi-task, but only a few can do it well. Glad it all worked in your favor.

If you have gone through all the Dynex codes you could try some other brands. Give Durabrand a try.

Guys, old style remotes let you input codes. Their new remote is too smart for that. They Believe that it knows all and doesn’t need to be told what make and model or what set of codes it needs to use. There is no provision to input anything like that in the Gemini remote. And they have no plan to fix it. their answer is “buy a new TV“ at your expense.

AFAIK the new TVs tell the remotes what the code is not the remote knowing everything.

Have you tried using HDMI-CEC to turn the TV on/off.

HDMI-CEC? I don’t think that’s built into the system. I can use an external remote that is specific for my TV. It’s not that I can’t turn the TV on and off. It’s that their remote, touted for being able to replace all remotes, can’t do it.

DTV calls it HDMI control, what the TV calls it you have to find out.

IIRC the Gemini has it on by default.
