Is it worth it?

The Protection Plan ($8.99/month) covers service calls for repair ($99), delivery of replacement boxes ($19.95), remotes ($15, though cheaper through Authorized Retailers).

It claims a free upgrade of equipment every two years, which I find misleading. Free upgrades have always been after 2 years of good active service. The plan simply gave an exact date for their reps to look at. And their equipment doesn't change often enough to replace that quickly, unless you have a box of a lower level than your others.

The one-time costs in my opinion are cheaper in the long run than paying for the plan indefinitely.

Protection Plan Premier adds protection for other qualifying equipment (like your TV set) which has to be on the approved list and be registered. If you already have a warranty or extended protection plan for that equipment then don't get the plan as that would be overlapping coverage.
