Equipment update

I have a HR34-700 receiver currently. I’m going to be getting a new 4k TV soon and was wondering if I would need to update/upgrade my receiver?

I have read that you can get equipment upgraded or updated every so often. Is this true?

Yes, you need at least an HR54 and a C61K wired only or a C71WK mini client to get and watch the 4K channels or the HS17 Genie2.  Customers that are in good standing can upgrade or add a TV ever 2 years but it only covers one receiver so it will cover the HR54/HS17 and you pay the up front lease fee for the mini client.

Does a technician have to hook this up?
Or is it just reconnecting of the existing cables?

If the HR34-700 is your only TV, then a technician is required to install a SWM splitter so that two lines can be run from the SWM LNB to the HR54/C61K.

If you already have two lines going into the rooms then a technician is not required, although one may be dispatched regardless.

Only the HR54 gets the 4K channels and a bit faster chips.

I currently only have one tv but when they installed the current system the technician put in a SWM splitter in case I added another tv. I was thinking of adding another at the time but decided against it.

It isn’t currently connected to the internet either. I upgraded from some serious slow dsl line that constantly drops to Att Air. I can actually stream stuff now instead of watching a buffering wheel go round and round!
I know that there’s no a lot of channels in 4k but was told that I would have to get all new equipment if I got a new tv that was 4k. Glad to know that isn’t true. Sounded like he didn’t know what he was talking about to me but you know the old adage, trust but verify.
