DVR playback freezes on Genie 2

My Genie DVR freezes up after it has been paused (won't come off of pause). I've reset it countless times but this continues to occur. Occasionally I can exit out and select the program from my list to continue watching, but it often starts the recording from the beginning. Also, I have 250 mb internet hard wired to the receiver, but not on demand programming will not allow me to stream in hd, and buffers badly on reduced quality live streams.

What is the receiver model? Is the Genie freezing up with on-demand or actual DVR recordings? Freezing up on recorded satellite programs could mean a failing hard drive.

Buffering, even with a good connection, could also suggest a failing hard drive since you suggest that the speed over Ethernet is adequate. Just to verify, does this buffering occur on all programs? When did the issue start? Is the DVR itself slow altogether and do you find issues rewinding programs that are currently live over satellite?

Receiver model #: HS17R1/500

Genie freezes on DVR recordings playback. 
Buffering occurs on all on demand programs. 
DVR does appear to be slow at times. 
Live rewinding occurs occasionally. Issues have been increasing over the last few months. 
On demand nearly unwatchable entirely the past week or two.

The only 1080p programing DTV has is a few PPV movies and there is little to no different between 1080p and 1080i.

I do not have any issues watching in 1080i if it would stream without buffering constantly and freezing. It is unwatchable even when I let directv choose the playback quality.

I'm also having the playback freezing with my Genie Gen 3 (model #HR54-700) since the day I got it a few months ago.  Freezes at times when paused and will not restart, fast forward or rewind.  Only option is to go to something on my playlist or turn off the DVR to reset it.
It is frustrating!
