Does Direct TV Come Configured with a WIFI Network?

I have had DirectTV and the Dish running for a month.  All of a sudden this WIFI network has popped up on my phone and computers  DIRECT-92A21961 it is password protected.  I recognized that it probably came from DirectTV, so I went to my TV and Settings.

I did not realize that I could create a Wireless Network.  I did a search of existing networks and found my Home Network plus this Dish Network.  I was not the one who set this network up.  Did ATT/DirectTV set this up as part of my service?  Or someone else that did not have my permission to set it up?

Has anyone else had this experience.  It seems to be used on my phones as an Access Point.

directv has its own private network that connects the boxes for "whole home". It's not accessible or usable in any way by you or anyone else. It does not connect to or use your router.

DTV doesn't use WiFi for Whole Home unless you have wireless mini clients it uses the coax.  WiFi can be used to connect to your home network for On Demand, paying for PPV with the remote.

We have been with Direct TV for 5 years and have just recently started getting pop ups asking if we want to reconnect to the WiFi.   We have WiFi but have never been connected.

That is connecting your home wifi to allow the services that shannon referred to. I normally recommend connecting it to the 2.4 Gig band, since the DTV wifi is usually on 5 GHz

Thanks, nice to know... since the OP said it has only been running a few months, I think I (correctly) assumed it is the new 5GHz, right?
