Directv Genie 2 HS17
Hello,
I'm an integrator and I have a client that wants to have 7 Satellite receivers feeding 7 displays for a fitness room. All with the ability to have separate channels on each of them. He mentioned a Genie 2 which means we'll need 7 genie clients. It needs to be wired and not wireless for reliability reasons. It looks like the "network" connection is an F connector. Can someone please elaborate on the network setup of these? Do I just need to split the Satellite signal 7 ways and feed it into the Clients? I was expecting an RJ45 connector for standard network connections.
Let me know . Thanks!

EDIT: If there is a better way of doing this outside of the Genie 2 let me know!. Thanks, BTW 4k is not a requirement

The DirecTV boxes are connected by coax to each on their Single Wire Multiswitch (SWM). Solid copper core RG6.
Genie-2 (HS17) is 7 tuners. Unlike a traditional receiver, it doesn't go on a TV. You would need a Mini Genie Client on each of the 7 TVs. That is the max supported. Be aware anything recording takes a tuner. And this model does not allow receivers, so every box (TV) is dependent on the main one as it is the Headless Server that runs them all.
I always suggest wired over wireless for reliability, so you've got a good mindset there. Whether C61 or C61K (the 4K model) it is still a wired Client. Only if C61W (or earlier C41W) is it wireless-only, or the new Gemini C61KW (4K and can be wireless or wired) but as this one combos as a streaming device I might caution against for this setup.
If this fitness room is not personal but a business, then the Genie-2 is not permitted as business/commercial accounts are not allowed DVR. They would get non-DVR models instead such as H26K.
Costwise, each additional TV adds $7 to the monthly charges.
Others should chime in eventually with more specifics on the wiring.

You can use an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet or use the built in WiFi on the HS17.

DirecTV coax to their own boxes.
Ethernet only used to connect HS17 to your home internet for optional On Demand features.
It is connecting to satellite for service, not internet, which is why the coax instead of Ethernet.

thank you juniper. for the h26K, those are standalone devices correct? no Genie 2 in that scenario? Just 7 H26K boxes feeding each tv? Thanks

The H26K are 4K compatible, you can use H25 that are not 4K. That is correct both models are stand alone with no HS17 needed. Also they don't need to be connected to the internet as having no hard drives they can't buffer On Demand.

thanks. We were also hoping to be able to use the direct tv control app for multiple device controls. I would expect the H25 or h26k to need to connect to the building network for that to happen correct ?

Any model starting 'C' is a Client. H are HD non-DVRs, HR are HDDVRs, both which are standalone receivers.
The H26K is the newest HD non-DVR only for commercial accounts (such as Sports Bars).
Genie-2 (HS17) is the only model that doesn't allow standalone receivers. This only allows Clients. It is an all-in-one setup pushed heavily by AT&T.
The regular Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) is a standalone HDDVR. It supports HD non-DVRs (H21 thru H25), HDDVRs (HR20 thru HR24, and special R22), and Clients.
Is this a commercial or residential (single or MDU) situation?
Each device uses their own remote.

You will probably need a DECA BB to connect to the internet. AFAIK that app is only used for business.

its an office building with public employees. They have a gym on one of their floors with 7 displays. Really hoping to utilize the control app in this scenario. I'm fairly certain they have a commercial DTV account already because they have a dtv box in almost every room.

With a commercial account than absolutely no Genie-2 (HS17). Instead it should be dedicated HD non-DVR receivers, perhaps the newest H26K. Whomever is the account owner/authorized user will need to call in and see about placing an order for the additional boxes. Normally they are $99 one-time lease cost per box for a residential account, but will have to be sure for the commercial account.

What is the name of the iPad app that is used for businesses to control the TV channel for multiple receivers on multiple displays? I'm doing 7 receivers on 7 displays. The only app i found is 10 years old on youtube. Looking for some type of screenshot or reference to show the client.
