DirecTV box asks to be powered on for other TV apps to work

We have a Samsung Smart TV Q80BA - we have used the TV apps [youtube/mlb/hulu, etc.] for over a year without having the DirecTV box on.  Lately, while using an app, the TV will randomly go to another screen where it is asking you to power on the DirecTV box.  Once we do that, then the app will begin to work again.  There should be no reason for this.  Also, once we power the DTV box on and go back to the app, after 4 hours the box shuts off and we have to turn it back on again.  How do we fix this so the DTV box does NOT need to be on for the apps to work?  Thank you!

DTV receivers have a power saver mode that will return the receiver to standby mode after 4 hours of non remote use that can be turned off.

appreciate that!  the issue isn't with keeping the receiver on, the issue is i should not need the receiver on to use the apps on the tv but for some reason it keeps asking to power on the receiver in order for the apps to work.
