direct tv and sony bravia- apps switch back to tv
When direct TV is on, Sony apps switch back to TV in less than a minute. Also Sony setting screen revert to TV within minutes. With DT box off apps work fine. I restarted the DT box and it works fine until I turn it off and then back on. Then its back to reverting.

Good evening, @RustysBuddy. What type/model of DIRECTV receiver do you have? Rizza, DIRECTV Community Team

Which do you want, the master box or slave boxes. And where is the ID located?

The box connected to the Sony TV that you mentioned has a sticker underneath with the receiver information. Rizza, DIRECTV Community Team

Only post model number, not the Receiver ID (as that is personal to your exact box and account).
I would make sure that if your TV has HDMI-CEC that it is turned off and you are not using a 'smart' power strip. These can caused issues as it tries to use HDMI automatic controls based on power and input that don't always work well with DirecTV equipment.
But if you're watching apps on the TV, then your DirecTV box should be off (technically it is a standby mode, not completely off or recordings couldn't happen).

Have been using this setup for years, no problem. I have changed nothing and all of a sudden this has become a problem. ????

Just because you've using it for years with no problem does not me that a problem could never happen. So you troubleshoot to find the cause and fix it.
What is the model (not ID) of your DirecTV box?
Make/model of your TV?
What troubleshooting (if any) have you tried already?
Red button reset DirecTV box or unplugged from power for a couple minutes?
Power cycled the TV?
Checked TV for software/firmware updates?
As mentioned make sure that HDMI-CEC is turned off and you're not using a 'smart' power strip as sometimes they don't work correctly with DirecTV. And if DirecTV box is not in use, then turn it off as intended.
Also since you mention master/slave regarding the box, I take it you have some sort of Genie/Client setup. Check the same things for the main Genie as well and any reset or power cycle to do that on the main box first.

1. Yes I understand things break, which is why I have a problem. The point of that was to inform that I have made no changes, either settings or equipment prior to the problem developing.
2. None of the Direct TV boxes have a make anywhere on it. Yes it is a Genie setup. The master model # is HR54-500 and the slave box is C61K-700. The TV is a Sony Bravia 75X850G. The TV is 5yrs old and the cable boxes came with service 5 yrs ago.
3. I have unplugged and re-plugged the TV, unplugged and re-plugged the slave box and pressed the red reset button.( corrects the problem until I turn off and back on, then its back.) I have pressed the red reset on the master box but have not unplugged it. TV software is up to date. I do not know where to find the setting for HDMI-CEC, and have looked in TV settings and not found it. All cable boxes are plugged directly into outlets but the TV is plugged in to surge protecting power strip.
4. When you say turn off box as intended when not in use I would assume you mean when not watching TV, this I do. If you mean turn off cable box when watching say, Netflix, that is rather inconvenient and I am sure not as intended. I do that now as a work around when watching apps.

1. Ok clarifying that you changed nothing on your side when issue started. Fair enough.
2. Make (brand) was in reference for the TV itself in case something updated that might affect a certain one (as TV makers don't keep up on some updates, supposedly so they can sell TVs when the old ones become "obsolete").
Ok you have 3rd generation Genie and the 4K Mini Genie Client.
3. Just make sure not to reset the boxes together. Just do Genie first and then any Clients. If power cycle, both can be powered off at same time just make sure Genie is fully back up before powering Client on. This is because Genie is the server (the brain) for the Clients, so is the preferred order.
Looks like your TV calls HDMI-CEC "Bravia Sync". Just something to try as sometimes those auto settings with HDMI to power on or switch inputs don't work as intended (at least with DirecTV).
If you have multiple HDMI devices, you can try unplugging all of them and testing with DirecTV only. If that resolves it, then it is an HDMI or HDCP conflict somewhere in the chain. Plugging everything back in might resolve if it was just a temporary glitch.
4. If you're not watching DirecTV then you turn off the DirecTV box, regardless if you're using the TV for other things or not. The DirecTV box is built with Power Settings and an automatic Screen Screen saver as was not intended to just be completely on indefinitely while you're using other devices. Not built for use full power 24/7 when not in use. If that "workaround" resolves it, then you are good going forward.

I don't want to steal a thread but we are having the same issue with our Sony Bravia TV and it started a few days ago. It has been perfect for 5 years. When we click on a app it just boots us back out to regular tv. We have tried all the fixes and as a last resort tried the factory reset and that made it worse because we downloaded the Netflix app to see if the reset fixed the issue and we can't even log in to the app because it boots us out.
We have the big Genie out in the living room and the small Genie in the bedroom. For the time being a Firestick has given us access to our streaming apps. Directv is offering us the free Genie Streaming box at no cost and i want to know if that would fix our issues? My wife likes the idea of one remote only and so do I.
I just realized that we have the exact same TV.
Edit: So from reading these posts we tried it with the box off and it let us log in to Netflix and it worked fine. So my wife tried it with the box back on and it let us enter the log in info and password for Apple TV and it stuck and did not boot us out again. Will it hold with the box on??? Time will tell. Maybe it's been fixed?
Thanks.

You have a Genie(big one) with mini clients. The Gemini is also a client that can also stream apps without changing the TV input and probably will not fix this problem.

I have given up on this problem. Now my cable remote wont even control the. Cable box. My Sony remote handles everything but I still must turn off cable box for apps. Also the Sony remote is small and unlit. Pain in the low light. I'm going to contact DTV and see what they can do.
