Consisten interpretation of forum rules
Several times I have had a post deleted because I referred to my web site that has helpful tips and information..
Note these postings are DIRECTLY in the spirit of the forum rule:
Introduction
Welcome to the Community Forums operated by DIRECTV, LLC. ("DIRECTV", "we", "our" and "us"). DIRECTV provides these Community Forums as a courtesy to its users and customers, to help them exchange ideas, tips, information, and techniques related to our products and services.
This is the VERY FIRST text in the forum rules and guidelines.
But I finally had someone say I was promoting a 3rd party site.
The forum rule cited is:
"
Keep it Spam Free
The Community Forums are provided as a convenience to DIRECTV customers and users and is not to be used for the promotion of third-party services, products, websites, or organizations. Please refrain from posting content that would constitute advertising, junk mail, spam, chain letters, or any other form of unauthorized solicitation."
So, OK, I fail to see how I violate this... unless you say my site, which is ONLY Tips and help, is a "third party" site...
If this is true, then you CANNOT continually mention the COMMERCIAL COMPANY SOLIDSIGNAL
PERIOD. There are no specific exceptions, and SOLIDSIGNAL is a business, my web site is not.
So, it is unreasonable to single ME out, who only has tips and help and allow a COMMERCIAL site to be referenced.
Will the moderators (who normally delete my posts) please respond... I'm prepared to take this as high in DIRECTV as needed.

You failed to read this part:
Be Careful
Most people are happy to assist others within the Community Forums. Please remember that their advice is theirs only and that you are responsible for deciding whether to follow it. If the advice given by a user sounds wrong to you, do not follow it. Use common sense when providing or receiving assistance from other Community Forum participants. Never post personally identifiable information on the Community Forum. This includes your personal information as well as anyone else’s personal information. Personally identifiable information includes but is not limited to - name, physical and/or email address, age, phone number or credit card information. Furthermore, if any user asks you for personal information e.g., an account number, address, password, or credit card number, do not provide it. Lastly, use common sense. Evaluate for yourself whether the advice provided, or the request made makes sense to you.
The guideline you broke was recommending someone remove this site and contact you directly for assistance, as you provided them your email and information. I personally did not remove your post, someone else did.

detuch:
there is no personal information on my site, so I did read that site.. compared to the commercial site recommended over and over, there is the phone number, address, email contact, etc.
I find your point without merit.
Juniper:
not only is there not distinction between an authorized dealer and an individual, it should be clear to anyone that I have no vested or commercial interest in the results.
Clearly this is NOT so with the commercial enterprise.
I quoted the BASIC & FUNDAMENTAL FORUM INTENT. First paragraph and first sentence in the guidelines and rules.
You two are trying to read a personal interpretation into a subsequent guideline.
Normally I only speak up in 2 cases, I can contribute something helpful, or poor or erroneous information is given.
Time after time I see "experts" produce things that are nothing more than speculation as fact.
I'm here to be helpful, and some people just want to spout their personal opinion, or really old data. Does anyone remember when I first joined and the argument that DirectTV has a special or unique form or MoCA? Or that they use a special type of communication to the WVB? Both baloney..
I needed help when I first joined, and now I have worked hard to investigate and determine certain things, then I will share what I know to HELP OTHERS. Again the #1 goal and rule of the forum.
So, I would request we stop this censure of links to my site, where I have carefully documented and investigated some helpful information.
Otherwise, I would often have to copy and paste voluminous and unorganized information into this tiny format... this way people can "take it or leave it" as they wish (note this is ALSO in the RULES).
Greg (or am I forbidden to give my first name?)

Yes, your website is a third-party site. It doesn't belong to DIRECTV. It doesn't belong to the customer.
Repeated links to a website can be construed as "promotion of third-party ... websites." Even if you are not [currently] monetizing your site, you do need to be on guard against being accused of promoting your site.
I will also say that the Sprnkler spam bots can be really harsh on link-containing posts, so you may be losing some posts purely due to automation, not human moderation.

as a clarification, I never disputed that my site is a 3rd party site, just that the SOLIDSIGNAL site is ALSO a 3rd party site...
The title of this thread is "consistent interpretation"... so the above is NOT consistent...
There is no exception on 3rd party sites...
So, I'm not trying to pull people to my site... it has no forum, but to avoid making huge posts of a lot of information on a forum post, but giving a link to tables of information, to help keep posts readable, and it is optional if people want to read it or not.
In many forums, the same question is posted over and over by new people.
One response can be to keep typing new responses to the same question..
Another response is "hey this has been asked before so here is a well crafted link to an answer, that has been updated over time and experience"...
I choose the latter... my link was to answer the question: where in the menu can I find that information... the answer is several places in the info menu.
Newbies are not necessarily with the entire menu structure, but I have painstakingly documented it, with some helpful explanatory notes.
For the people who have read it, it is a clear, searchable listing of all the options in the Genie 2 / Gemini menu... I refer to it myself when I forget where a setting or data point is.
All of this back and forth gets in the way of the "supposed" priorities of helping people (and promoting solidsignal).
Anyway, just trying to help, I guess I can update my site metadata keywords to allow people to find information with simple google searches.
