Confused about DirecTV Hardware Choice
I'm interested in ordering DirecTV satellite service. I prefer that over the streaming service, because I already have a DirecTV dish on my roof (service with that dish ended in 2019).
I'm confused, however, about the choice of hardware available: Gemini Receiver or Standard DirecTV Receiver. My understanding is the Standard DirecTV Receiver would be the H54 Genie (or something similar) and the Gemini line is a streaming-only solution. Is there somewhere where I could find more information about what the exact hardware would be with both choices?

DTV is only installing the HS17 Genie2 that is a client only system and doesn't connect to any TV, 7 tuners hard capped and a 2 TB hard drive. The C71KW Gemini is a client when installed on a sat system but can stream from streaming services apps without having to change the TV's input/source using the internet provided the HS17 is connected to the internet.

Hi, @nico8516. I appreciate your interest. I see that your question has been answered by @shannon02. DIRECTV dish might need to be changed or realigned. Visit https://www.directv.com/support/article/000091357 to learn more about the Gemini device. Sean, DIRECTV Community Specialist

DirecTV is pushing the Genie-2 (HS17) which is a Headless Server tower. It provides the receiver and DVR functions, but doesn't go on a TV. Instead a Client (model starting with 'C') goes on each TV.
The HR54 is the 3rd generation Genie-2. Is a more traditional HDDVR, so does go on a TV. It is the server for any Clients but supports regular receivers/HDDVRs (unfortunately those haven't been made in several years so are hard to come by).
The Gemini (for satellite) is not streaming-only. It provides the same function as a Mini Genie Client while also able to function as a streaming device for any downloaded apps. That is how it works for DirecTV (satellite). Now if you had the other service DIRECTV STREAM / DirecTV by Internet, then that Gemini would be firmware loaded for streaming-only since you cannot swap it between the two providers (since no way currently to change firmware).
As long as your existing dish is a slimline SWM dish, and in good condition, they should be able to still use it. However if that is an older MPEG-2/SD-only dish then they will need to put in a new one.
