Channel change issues

I just got Directv and am having a problem with channel change.  It keeps freezing and am not able to use any other functions.  I do not know what the issue is.  I came from Spectrum and it was a no-brainer (but also cost me $120 more a month..).  I am considered elderly, so not savvy on all of this new technology.  Also, other tutorials recommend removing the remote batteries temporarily, that seems to be a challenge as well.  I am unable to get the back open even with the thumb depression on the back.  Thanks for any suggestions.

do you have any kind of IR repeater setup that could be causing confusing signals to be sent?

I had a situation where I had a repeater that beamed into a closed cabinet, but there was a gap in the cabinet doors where the original signal got "in" as well as the repeated signal.

Okay, so we ended taking the remote over to the AT&T store, where we acquired our service from, and they showed us how to open the remote back to check batteries.  And, what do you know?  Yep, the batteries were pretty much dying.  Anyway, since replacing the batteries, the remote works just fine!

Thanks for all responses  :)

Glad they could help.  AT&T stores are considered by DTV as a third party company so they can only send new orders to DTV and can't do anything for existing customers.
