Can’t setup satellite system, can’t get to satellite signal strength page in menu to eventually connect to satellite
I have a genie HS17-500 and I can’t begin to setup my satellite connection. As soon as I turn on the power and the genie goes through all the setup phases, it stops at “Recordings” setting on the left hand side of the “settings” page after pressing menu on the remote. I therefore can’t get to the satellite signal strength pages to see if my satellite is pointed in the right direction. I use a satellite app to point the satellite in the right general direction and then zero in on the right position after that. My system uses a HS17-500, a splitter, a M/C41-700 and or M/C61W-700 and new cable.
I’ve set this system up many times and it worked but now it doesn’t. I just can’t get to the satellite signal strength page. All I see is “Recordings” on the left hand side of the menu page.
I need HELP to get to the satellite signal strength page to complete the setup. Get you help me.
I tried new lnbs, splitters and cable but nothing works.

Hi, Gmonken. We apologize if you're unable to set up your satellite connection. We'd like to take a closer look into this. I'm sending you a DM to investigate this issue. Sitte, DIRECTV Community Specialist

No DM needed, this issue can be resolved publicly.
Please go to Menu, and under the Settings category, scroll to the right until you see Satellite Setup. Choose Satellite Setup and press the (-) DASH button to confirm.
This must been performed on a Genie client, as the HS17 itself does not go to a TV (as you are likely aware of).

No, this doesn’t work. I can’t get to that page. As soon as I select menu, it goes to the menu side of the page alright but the normal items on the left hand side of the menu page are missing except for “Recordings” at the top. One would normally see Recordings, On Demand, Discover, Apps, and Settings but all I have is Recordings. It’s behaving like the satellite LNB isn’t connected. Therefore, I can’t get to the satellite signal strength page to setup the satellite.
I’ve also tried two new LNBs thinking that my LNB went bad.
Again, what’s keeping me from getting to my satellite signal strength page?

Thank you for your efforts in trying to resolve the issue, Gmonken. There could be several factors that caused the problem. To begin troubleshooting your HS17-500 receiver, please send us a DM. In the meantime, you can try resetting your receiver to restore its optimal performance. To do so, please press the red button located on the right side of the receiver and wait for it to reboot. @Gmonken
What Genie client are you using to check the current signal strength? Definitely attempt to preform a red button reset on both the HS17 as well as Genie clients.
Furthermore, if the issue persists, attach a picture of the current Menu you are seeing.

I use both C61W-700 and C41-700 modules or clients.

The HS17-500 does work in another location in my house with a different satellite dish and LNB.

I'm glad to know that it's working now. Seeing how it only worked after you moved it to a new location with different satellite dish and LNB means that there's something with the satellite that needs to be fixed. Please send us a DM so that we can determine what really happened and schedule a technician visit to fix it. Claudine, DIRECTV Community Specialist

No, it’s not working. I got two locations where I place my HS17 and in one place it works and the other place it doesn’t work. The other place is when I go on an RV trip and set up a tripod system. I’ve done this probably 100’s of time but now it won’t work. I use the same components, HS17 and the two client modules mentioned above. But now I can get past that Recordings setting on my menu to focus in on the satellite signal strength.
what’s keeping from measuring the satellite signal strength?

Satellite signal usually becomes weak once there is debris blocking the signal from the satellite, another factor is the weather. DM is a Direct Message, you can click my profile then hover to the options icon in the top right corner then select Send Message.

What does the Settings category Show when you highlight it?

I don’t think this has anything to do with blocking the satellite, it trying to get to the satellite signal strength page to be able to point the satellite in the right direction. Even if the satellite dish is pointing 180* away from the satellite, one should still be able to get to that satellite signal strength page. Right?

Another thing: when I first started having my problem I thought it was the lnb, 3D2RBLNBR0-02, and bought a new one from SolidSignal an authorized Directv dealer and they sent me a 3D2RBLNBR0-01. Which didn’t solve the problem. I then bought another lnb from Amazon (same model number as the one from SS) and of course it doesn’t work.
Any suggestions?

I understand that you only see the Recordings option after pressing the Menu button. Have you attempted to reset your receiver by pressing the red button? Alternatively, you can unplug the power cord of your receiver from the electrical outlet, wait for 15 seconds, and then plug it back in. Please let me know if either of these methods helps.
