cant get genie remote to work with TCL 43S450F

tried several times to program the genie to operate my TCL tv model 43S450F, no luck watched videos and followed DIRECTV's instructions from website. then just a few min ago I read online that "This TV does not work on DISH remote volume, mute, or volume. Spent over an hour with TCL support,Amazon customer, and DISH customer. They told me that the Remote w/DISH will not work."  and ..... "Directv remote codes do not work and support on TCL was unable to even start helping as they seemed completely lost providing a random code from a poorly written Directv support article. Directv support was equally useless."  Wish I would have known this before buying it for my 84-year-old mother who is having a (Edited per community guidelines) of a time now having to use 2 remotes and getting her confused!  Hoping there's some new way to pair it to the tv.
