Can I use HR24 receivers with an HD/MPEG-4 satellite dish?

Hi, I have 3 HD24 receivers.  None of them receive local channels (channels from 2 to 69) because DTV discontinued local signals on my SD satellite dish.

I received permission to be able to get on the roof and replace the dish to an HD/MPEG-4 dish.

If I do replace it, can I still use my HD24 receivers?

Can the HD dish use RG59 coaxial cables?  I have RG59 cables going thru the different rooms for the 3 receivers and I really do not want to have to replace all of them with RG6 cables.

You need RG6 solid copper cable to the dish to supply the 21V needed to power a SWM LNB.  The RG59 may work if they are not to long to the rooms. You have posted 2 different model numbers, both will work with a SWM dish and you only need 1 coax from the SWM splitter to each.

If it is a flat roof you can use a sled mount as the SWM dish will not fit on an pole used for an SD dish.

If you still have SD only receivers you need a free MPEG4 HD upgrade.

Shannon,

Thank you for responding and answering some of my questions.   I'd like to clarify a few points with my replies.

1) I'm confused when you said I posed two different model numbers.  I only have 3 HD24 receivers that are working.

I received a Genie but I could never activate it because I do not have an HD satellite dish.

2) The RG59 cables run across various rooms so the distance could be over 50 ft.

3) The current satellite that I have, the SD dish, is on a sled, not a pole.

One further question.

If I get the satellite dish to HD, will the Genie box that I have be able to be activated?  It's been 3 months since I received it.

Doubtful as you only have 1 month to activate a new receiver per the TOS.

There is no HD24 only H24 or HR24.

Didn't know that SD dishes used a sled mount but it doesn't matter the HD dish can't be mounted on a SD pole as it is to small.  HD dishes uses a 2" OD pole.

RG59 may or may not work.

Shannon, my bad.  My receivers are "HR24" receivers.

Also Shannon, when my satellite was first installed, the dish could not be mounted on any poles because there weren't any on the roof.  It is not a sloped roof so the contractor used a sled.  IIRC, he said he didn't use a pole because he felt the pole might fall over because it gets very windy here in the winter (30+ MPH winds)

Sled mounts still have a pole to mount the dish on same as a roof mount or a pole in the ground.

Shannon, it was a sled.   When he installed it over 10 years ago, I saw him haul that sled up the ladder.  He complained how it was a hassle to haul sleds up to roofs.

Techs are allowed on flat roofs.  OSHA rules are for sloped roofs.  The OP stated he was given permission to go on the roof.
