can I connect 2 tvs to a single dvr receiver

I want to connect a tv in my bathroom and and a tv in the bedroom (rooms are right next to each other) to a single HD DVR receiver.  Can this be done and would I be able to watch different channels or would I have to watch the same channel in both rooms?  I'm willing to get Direct TV to install and do this if it can in fact be done.

First off we need to know what reciever you have in the bedroom.  Are the two tv's back to back on the wall?  Knowing what reciever and the locations will allow us to help you out.

If you connect the bathroom to the bedroom you will only see what is playing on  the one channel, if you install a reciever in the bathroom, then you have ablity for differant channels on each tv

with one receiver you would have to watch the same channel that the receiver is playing on both TV's.  are both TV's HiDef?

I will probably be upgrading the receiver in the bedroom to a HD DVR.  Right now it is just a regular receiver.  I will be replacing the TV in the bedroom with a HD TV and using the TV that's currently in the bedroom and moving it to the bathroom.  That TV is not HD.  Will it be possible to connect the TV that's not HD to a HD receiver?  There is a closed separating the two rooms, but I could run the cable through the closet.

Sure you can feed both receivers from one HDDVR.   But you will have to watch the same channel at both locations.  and if you are watching TV on the bathroom, you must set the receiver to a SD resolution that you are able to get the menus.

If you have a HD receiver, get a HDMI splitter.  You can use the splitter  to send the signal to two HDTVs.  As someone said in an earlier post, you will be watching the same thing on both TVs.

the second TV (bathroom) is not an HD TV, so this idea would not work.

You cannot watch two different programs from one DIRECTV receiver. You can, however, split the video output going to both TVs with a simple HDMI splitter. However, this method only allows you to watch the same thing on both TVs.

As far as remotes go, you can pair two remotes to the DIRECTV receiver in IR mode to get 2 going at the same time.

Otherwise, if you wish to have unique TV service on two TVs, you need two different DIRECTV Receivers for the two TVs.
